Indianapolis here...we are about 10 minutes from downtown. There are no ordinances against chickens, but a fairly vague ordinance in regards to noise. So, I have chosen to not have a roo. We live on a fairly large lot (1950's home, built before interstate, etc) but I don't let them free range, since we have a very large dog, who would love to chase and eat one
I allow them to free range in the evening, and put the dog up. Otherwise they have a coop and run (check out BYC page). I just acquired 5 banties and plan on adding more standards next year. Another coop/run is being built by my dh for the banties
