Found one of our girls with bubbly eyes in the pen and separated her immediately. We bought her in to treat her and keep an eye On her. She then started to get one swollen eye and then the other. We have treated them, cleaned them and started her on antibiotics. Also giving her electrolytes and extra vitamins to keep her energy up. Now she is coughing. And now I have noticed she is coughing up bits of bloody mucus. Time to cull? I hate to have to do it but gosh I hate to have her suffer any further. I have dealt in the past the with respiratory sickness. Winning some, losing some. But never to the extent of blood being coughed up. Could it be something more? It is terribly annoying when our chooks are loved dearly and are the most spoilt chooks! So what does everyone think I should do now? Is there anything I'm missing?

Do you know which disease you have in your flock? Mycoplasma, coryza, so many others. Have you even had a necropsy? What antibiotic are you using? I would cull her if she is really suffering. If I thought she could recover with the meds, I might wait and see.

We haven't had a necropsy. We have had verification from a vet On couple still alive which came to the conclusion of infectious bronchitis. A necropsy May be on the cards to stop any future problems. As we are still learning what works and what doesn't with having chickens and breeding. At the moment she is on Oxymav. And eyes cleaned with warm salty water. And vitamins. I even got the humidifier out just to help break the mucus up a bit (don't know if it will help a chicken though). I'm keeping an eye On her closely but I thought seeing her cough up blood would mean there isn't much else I could do?
