Hi Fellow Chicken people- This is a long post and lots of pictures- but I need some advice as to what this is, and if im doing this right:

This morning i went out to the coop and this Speckled Sussex's leg caught my eye because her legs are very pale and there was red on them. Upon close inspection, there were two very red, open sores. I am not sure if this is very bad leg mites or pecking from the other hens- this pullet is the lowest in the pecking order.

I am assuming leg mites since i recently had an issue with another hen and mites. I soaked this pullets legs in an epsom salt bath for ten minutes- she seemed to relax and enjoy the water. I then sprayed the bad leg with the Wound Spray, and coated her foot in the healing cream. I wrapped in gauze and then in a sports wrap thing to keep it all together. Not the prettiest job- but its the first time i've ever had an open wound on a chicken.

She is now in a dog crate with food and water.

questions: could this be pecking or do you think it's mites, or something else?
Should i put hay in the dog crate to prevent her from sliding around?
my plan is to change the gauze every night and use a new sport wrap thing. Is this often enough or should i change it more often?

I will add photos below

And she does well confined so I’m not concerned about leaving her in the crate

I don't see obvious signs of mites, it just looks like an injury of some kind, maybe got the foot caught somewhere. I think what you've done is good. You can also use plain neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment (no pain killer) on it if needed, veterycin wound and skin spray is also good and antimicrobial and helps healing. Once a day changes should be fine just try to keep it clean unless it starts looking worse, once it's healing up well then maybe less often, just keeping it wrapped to protect it as necessary. When I crate birds I will often use either old bath towels in the bottom, or puppy pads. They can be changed out as needed, will help some in keeping her feet clean, and you will be able to make sure droppings are normal. If she's getting around Ok, eating and drinking normally, then I'd try to wrap it well to keep it clean (I use co flex bandaging, in the horse section at my feed store, cut to width) and let her be with the others, the longer she is away the harder it will be to put her back, especially if she's already low in the order.
