Urgent! considering taking in a pair of chicks, advice!

Yay for new chicks! Worst case scenario if the storm hits, we'll both have chickens in the garage - done it many times! Better call the feed store before heading over; of the three closest to me, two are closed on Sunday, and Grif's doesn't open until 1:00. I believe there is another Grif's in Coconut Creek, you could try them if Hole in the Wall isn't open.

I actually have two rabbit hutches that are on my patio. One they use where I put food under, the other they seldom go in. I was thinking the same but it wouldn't be safe enough for outside the patio. Also, the hutches are divided so 3/4 has wire slats and 1/4 has wood. Can they walk on the wire without hurting their feet? Thanks for the help!!

Yes they can but no ideal for months....if the bunnies have not been eaten by the coyotes or the coons...the chicks will probably be safe in the hutch. Everyone else has given great advice...at a month old, a small 5 ;b of chick starter and a water container as described will do for temporary until you decide on keeping them or finding them a new home. If one is a little boy...check your HOA or ordinances to see if roosters are allowed because he will start crowing usually around 10 weeks give or take however I just had one crow (not at my house but one that was hatched for me) at 3 or 4 days old. LOL

Good luck to you. And

Awww, if they run onto your feet when they're scared, that means they think you're their mommy, I think.

By the way, my Americaunas are big girls now! They just started laying their cute little light sage-green eggs.

yes we need pics! Glad to hear that they and you are doing great.

My hubby never complains about the cost of my chickens. He is a computer nut and those are lots more expensive of a hobby.

Yes, PLEASE rescue them! When they are this young you can put them in a box or a kennel, and when they are bigger (pullets) I move mine into the garage for more space. (when they are pullets they are young but don't require a lamp) For feed, try to get a hold of Purina chicken pellets, and ALWAYS make sure they have fresh clean water, chicks get dehydrated VERY easily! Bedding I have heard that chicks will eat the shavings, and get them all globbed up in their tummies, I use hay or soft towels.

Hope this helps!
