Urgent!! Could my hen be having a Stroke?

I have a two yr old bantam buff brahama that was perfectly fine this morning. She has been eating drinking running around like normal. I let them out in the pen this morning all was well. I was out collect eggs and she was fine. This evening when I went out to put them up everyone was in the barn except for her. She was stumbling around in circles. I tried to guide her to the door but she just couldn't walk straight. I picked her up and carried her all the while her head was curling upside down. I put her down in the doorway of the barn and she collasped on her back with her neck twisted around. I thought for sure she was dying right then and there. But she didn't. Her eyes keep rolling back in her head and she can't seem to stand without woobling and flopping on her back. I don't know if she is having a stroke or what. I have never seen anything like this before. Does anyone know what is happening? Has anyone had a chicken that has had a stroke? Can she survive or should I just put her out of her misery?

wait it out until tomorrow and see how she is. i wouldnt think its warm enough out side for a stroke but do you think she might have gotten after some sort of bug that could have stung her? or maybe snake bit?

We had a few meat birds do that, almost seemed like a heart failure, but it was after we had a cold storm and a lot had caught cold. Has there been a lot of stress on her that could cause a heart attack? What are you feeding her also?

Well, we feed Purina Layena and as far as stress goes, the weather here in Northern Ohio is enough to stress anything. I know it stresses me. Our temps have been going up and down like a yo-yo on a string. It's warm one day and freezing the next. The phrase that is used here a lot when forcasting the weather is "It will be cooler by the lake" When I hear that I just want to scream.

Potentially a brain injury. I had a Polish do that, but his injury resulted from the hollow crest thing.

I was wondering if she could have run into the fence and broke her neck, causing the partial paralysis.

But I guess I will never know, she just past away on me.

Aw, I'm so sorry! It sounds like some kind of injury or a stroke. Either way, I don't think there was anything you could have done to save her. At least she's not suffering any longer. *hugs*

Was she acting at all different the past few days? Occasionally, Marek's Disease can cause intense symptoms like that. But it is a gradual change, not sudden.

I'm so sorry. Wish I had read this earlier. Perhaps aspirin would have done the trick.
