Urgent help, may be dry membrane

well we candled them and no movement but they are big, she started pipping on day 26 and they havent even pipped, We will eait until day 30 or so but do ypu know anyone that could gove us ducklings in Northern ireland?šŸ˜ŠšŸ’ž
Oh no. Your eggs may still hatch, just keep humidity up and hopefully some are just lazy

she is alone and the only one that hatched so she snyggles to a dog teddy at night that keeps her quiet! she will have that until we find some ducklings in NI so far not good though:(
Do they really do that? Is it a coincidence or have others done that?

Its quite an interesting behavior to discuss.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone - would it be worth putting up a post in the main duck forum?

I'm not very good with pictures and I will try to get better ones later. Here's our 'bakers' dozen.
We started with 36.
19 were infertile
3 were early quitters
1 quit during lock-down

To answer that, I think you just have to ask if your area has strong agricultural ties. If it does there has to be someone with ducks there.

I do remember seeing duck eggs for sale from several places in Scotland and the England areas. So I'm guessing there should be some in Eire also.

I am so happy! One of them started pipping!
this happened last night and no sign of the others, its now 8 hours after the first one pipped, does that mean the others arent gonna hatch and only 1?

My baby chicks usually pip and then take a long many hour(s) break. Careful to watch that membrane stays moist (but not wet) and humidity around 65-70% during hatch is helpful, if you’re using an incubator. Dry membranes are hard for chicks to pip through. From ā€˜pip’ to ā€˜zip’ can be anywhere from 12-24 hours...depending on species, breed, and environmental conditions. Once they make the zip, chicks pop out of the egg within a few minutes to half hour...typically chickens are 21 days +/- 1 day and ducks are 28 days +/- 1 day. I try not to assist unless it’s moistening membranes or removing sharp pieces of shell that have already been pipped off by chicks. Membranes are very vascular, meaning filled with blood vessels, so there’s a reason Mother Nature makes it take about 24 hrs for them to hatch out....vessels shrink and membranes dry up enough for chicken to hatch without losing blood. Last hatch I had one chick pip out a full 24 hours before her siblings and the other 11 hatched just fine....she just decided to arrive early!! Peeping/chirping chicks encourage others to try harder to hatch so it’s not a bad thing if you get an early bird!
Note- allantois (poop sack) will be attached to chicks ā€˜bellybutton’ right after hatch and will naturally fall off shortly after hatch. Yolk sac should be fully absorbed by hatch time and no yellow yolk blob should be hanging out of chicks ā€˜bellybutton’. Never tug or pull on yolk or poop sacks as it could cause blood loss, infection, or death. Good luck to you! :)
