Hi there, I've got a quail hatching out but there's a problem, it pipped complely through yesterday afternoon but it's on the wrong side, I've left it alone to see how it goes and so far it has made hardly any progress and it's going the wrong direction (along the egg instead of around)

What should I do?

Well you opened a bag of worms with that question. There are folks who believe you should never interfere with a hatch as it is natures way of thinning out the weak birds and then the ones who say just try. So its best for you to so what ever you want. leave it be or step in and help. Its up to you. Good luck.

Thanks, I've helped with the hatching, the chick was fine but struggling to come away from the shell and annoyingly while I was distracted for a second, as I was sitting at the incubator the chick got free and fell through a hole in my incubator and into shallow water for the humidity and drowned in my hands :hit

I'm gutted but I suppose natural selection prevailed indirectly and the thing died despite my help in the end :/

At least the holes in the incubator are covered now for the rest still not hatched.
