please help, our barred rock has been acting strange for the the past few weeks, she’s been keeping her head very close to her body and not like the other barred rocks, we’re new to chicken keeping and she’s about 26 weeks old, the reason I’m only just asking is because now she is on the edge of our dust bath(terraced) and sort of squatting and bouncing slightly upside down, she’s letting me touch her(not usal) and they were all just squawking and clucking and screeching very loudly(not egg song) she and her 2 sibling barred rocks and 1 other different chicken have not laid yet, though 2 other chickens have been laying for a while now. Please help. I’m worried she’s really sick.

Can you carry gently her away from all the commotion, inside the house perhaps in good lighting and look all over at her and report back whether you find any injuries or other symptoms?

She is pumping, perhaps trying to move an egg along.

You'll need to pick her up and slide your hand under her. Check to see if her belly is swollen like a water balloon.

Lift her tail, check her vent area. You are looking to see if there is an egg visible or if she has anything that doesn't look right. Maybe crusted poop covering her vent?

How are her poops? Is she pooping normal? Eating and drinking?

Then, we can get a better idea of what is wrong, if anything is wrong.

What can I do to help her along?should I bring her inside? It’s about 35 degrees outside hear in New England.

She's not developed enough to be laying, so that rules out egg binding. What are you feeding? How long have you had her?

I can’t really tell with her poops cause we have 5 other chickens and I’m not at home for most of the day
