Yes, please tell us how long the hen has been sitting on the nest. If the eggs are only a couple days to a week in, then they may not hatch but I would still go for it. Since you found the eggs pretty early on after you lost the hen, there is a good chance they will hatch.

We've had the same problem about three times, first time was a little different but about the same. First time, our hen had been setting on the nest for 2 1/2 weeks I think, so the eggs only had 1 1/2 weeks left. Our dogs scared the hen off her nest during the night, we put her and the eggs in a cage but she was done setting after the dogs chased her. We took her eggs inside and incubated them in an egg carton under a damp towel, under a heat pad, in an aquarium. Our first makeshift incubator, lol. Out of the 21 eggs, 7 pipped, and 5 hatched.

Second time, the hen had only been sitting for 3 days. She got scared off and we took her eggs inside. Our incubator was full already so we borrowed our neighbors the next day. I didn't get the incubator setup until two days later though, meaning the eggs didn't have heat for 3 days. The eggs did not hatch and we were very disappointed, mainy because on their 24th day we saw 4 or 5 of the keets move inside the eggs. (I think we may have had too much humidity during incubation, but I'm not sure)

Third time, the hen had been sitting for 3 days aswell. I went to check her one morning because we hadn't seen or heard her and I found out she had been taken by a critter. We put her eggs in our friends incubator right away (They had only been cold for a couple hours probably) and 5/7 fertile eggs hatched.

So, I would say, definitely keep the eggs incubating until past the hatch date. Maybe none will hatch, maybe they all will hatch, you never know. Good luck and keep us updated

Wow, she's been setting that long? You could probably candle the eggs now and see if any are moving. I would say you have a VERY good chance of hatching those eggs!! Make sure that on your 25th day you have lots of humidity in the incubator.

Keep us updated!!!

OK, you're going to need a flashlight, a tube (like a paper towel tube or something), an egg and a dark room.

Put the flashlight inside the tube with the lighted end up. Set the bottom of the tube on a flat surface so the flashlight doesn't fall out. Don't forget to shut the other lights off, this works best in the dark.

Put your egg on the top of the tube and try to look through it. If it's full of guinea keet, it will look totally dark and solid with maybe an airspace at the end. If nothing's going on at all, it will look clear, with maybe a shadow from the yolk. And there are all different stages in between, but it sounds like yours should be close to done.

Let us know how they look. There are lots of threads on candling, the above is the short version.
