Urgent! Is my chicken sick??

One of my Bovan Brown hens is doing something really weird. She stands in place with her eyes closed and makes a really weird gurgling sound, almost like it’s snoring. Is it just asleep or is sick? Plz help! I’m really worried about her. We bought her full grown and we didn’t know the man very well. Any advice helps!

She sounds like she may have a respiratory infection. Maybe even Sour Crop. Best wishes!

Welcome to BYC, sorry for the circumstances. Pictures indicate she is not well, but do not define what the problem is. Is her crop overly enlarged? Is there blood in her feces ? Is there nasal or ocular discharge ?

Neither are contagious I believe. Sour crop is serious, and can be treaed like so:


If there is sour crop, the crop would be large and squishy. It wouldn't empty.
Separate the affected bird. Remove all food for 24 hours. Make sure she has fresh water with ACV. Massage the crop a lot. Almost like you are kneading bread. In between 'sessions' dip her beak in the water to assure she is drinking. After 24 hours, check if her crop emptied. If so, continue ACV water, and give her feed with water in it so it is a mash. Do this for a few days. Then you can give her unsweetened yogurt or unsweetened applesauce.

Please give as much detail as possible. Is she eating, drinking, pooping normally? Does she keep by herself or engage with the flock.? How long has she been like this?
