I'm brand new to chickens and last night like dummies they slept in the nesting box which is open to predators and my two lavender orpingtons got their toes chewed off by some hungry animal... I'm really sad and worried that Princess fluff is going to have a really hard time now she all the toes from one foot are gone and the middle toe of the other gone. Petunia just lost her middle digit. My fiance cleaned their feet with water peroxide and neosporin other than that I have no idea what to do?! They must be in sooo much pain! Their little faces are white instead of their deep red hue. :'(

PLEASE HELP! How can I make them feel better? Should I wrap their feet in gauze or something? I think all I have are bandaids....

Thanks! and these are still babies they're only 3 months old...

First, predator proof your coop, use hardware cloth(this is the only material that will keep predators out)because predator will be back. Clean feet several times a day, watch for infection. Use an antibiotic ointment, nothing ending in "caine"can be toxic to chickens. Give your chicks electrolytes for shock ASAP. Keep them inside home, keep them quiet, warm and make sure they drink(otherwise the will become dehydrated very fast)and eat. I would not cover wounds, let air circulate on them. Make sure flies are not getting into wounds. You can purchase Metacam form a vet for pain or give baby aspirin(80mg) dosage is 25mg per lb of body weight(may make them sleepy). As long as wounds heal, and chicks can still get around, they should be fine. You may have to eventually modify their living environment to accommodate their disabilities. They may not walk for a few days,so make sure feed/water is accessible to them.

Thanks! I'm just going to make their nest box a solid bottom. I have electrolytes and after we treated them they calmed down a lot! They're sleepy and they're all cuddled up together.
