URGENT: Need to determine sick 4 wk old chick issue... (video included)

I was taking a closer look and noticed that her underbelly is a blueish colour.

Could this be a symptom of anything or just a feature of the breed?

She could be part Araucana. Her beak is a bit greenish colour but legs are not. I have another that is more for sure half Araucana as it's beak and legs are fully green.
I noticed her belly is also quite blue compared to some of the others with more yellow colour belly skin.

If anyone knows of anyone who is knowledgeable about this kind of thing please forward them this thread. I really need to know what's going on here.

Thanks!

Ah!! She has a slight splayed leg!! Just like my little girl had! I didn't think so at first because it was so slight, but after 2 days with bandaids, she was 100% better!!

I'm on my phone right now, but go look at my post "unbalanced chick" to see about my girl. Pm me if you want advice, but I'm positive by your new video that is it!!!

Ok. so if you think the splay leg is the only problem then I guess there will be no harm in putting the new baby chicks in with her.

I'm going to move them in tonight.

I've tried to correct the legs with band-aids and so far it doesn't really seem to be helping.

I hope there is not something else wrong with her.

HI rheo.
I had a chick that had splayed legs and treated it with a hobble. It took about 2 weeks total for the treatment to work completely,,,I started treating when the chick was 1 day old. My baby also had pasty butt during this time. I think because the hobble limited movement, the chick wasn't and to do the little "back up, stick its booty out and poo" movement they seem to do. The good news is that the treatment did work, the chick just had a little wider stance than normal. Be careful to monitor closely while the brace is on because the chicks balance will be off and movement is limited. I also only had one other chick in with my hobbled chick for company because the braced chick can get trampled over by the other chicks. It won't be able to move as quickly as the others. The one I kept with it was really sweet and protective towards the hobbled chick

Good luck with your baby!!!!

She looks like she has some type of neurological problems. Sorry, I don't know why.

I have been thinking along those lines as well.. If that were the case is it possible that it could be something contagious?

None of the other chickens seems to have it but then again I didn't notice it in this one until it was almost 3 weeks old meaning that it may have somehow got it later.

I thought the same thing about "floppy" (as she is now known). Really, she looked identical to yours. I was worried about the other birds as well. Splint her legs faithfully for a while, don't separate her from the others, and make sure she can't fall and drowned in the water while hobbled (either raise it to her chest level or fill the bowl with marbles like I did.

I'm 99% sure that's your chicks problem. She is doing EXACTLY what my girl did and I thought illness/brain issue too. She is now a normal healthy chick catching up to the size of her sisters.

ok great. i have hope!

she's in the brooder with all the newborns. she's 4 weeks older than them but seems to get along pretty well.

I actually think perhaps I have seen a little improvement already.

YAY...hopefully that is it! My little chick did the same thing and it was due to the splayed legs. After doing the hobble, my chick was fine..ate, drank and ran around with the others!!! Just make sure water has marbles so your chick won't fall into it accidently and drown. Keep woring with the chick and hopefully you will continue to see improvement

this is a 4 1/2 week old chick at this point. what's the likelihood it could drown?
also i have a watering bottle that i think must be specifically designed for little chicks. the trough is maybe about 1/2" wide.

i have one chick in this latest round now that has the curled in toe syndrome. I saw something somewhere about making some little chick sandals for it so I guess that's the next project right after I see if i can't help any of the eggs that didn't hatch into the world.
