I do it just to be safe. It can be difficult for a hobbled chick to upright itself sometimes...better safe than sorry!!!! And YES...I had t do the chick sandals too. It also worked very quickly to straighten out the toes. There are several different ways to make them...I found the info on this site. Just make sure you check the toes every day, do not wrap to tight and I used the fabric sensitive band aides to attach to the toes. Also make sure you adjust the sandal for foot growth....it happens fast!!! You wanna do the sandal and hobble ASAP...younger you start the higher the success. Mine was one day old and sandal corrected the toes in 3 days...hobble was a couple of weeks.this is a 4 1/2 week old chick at this point. what's the likelihood it could drown?
also i have a watering bottle that i think must be specifically designed for little chicks. the trough is maybe about 1/2" wide.
i have one chick in this latest round now that has the curled in toe syndrome. I saw something somewhere about making some little chick sandals for it so I guess that's the next project right after I see if i can't help any of the eggs that didn't hatch into the world.
