Best guess I have to offer, if it is off the mark and you know it disregard. But the sick chicken is laying around like a pancacke you say and not being kept warm by your broody? What kind of temps is it experiencing now just from curiosity.

Not sure what you mean by "not being kept warm by (my) broody" but my brooder box is at around 83-86 degreesBut the sick chicken is laying around like a pancacke you say and not being kept warm by your broody? What kind of temps is it experiencing now just from curiosity.

Also keep a eye on her poop. Check to see if there is any red or blood in it. If there is you have a serious problem. I can't think of anything else you can do. It could have hatched with a internal defect that you cannot treat. So sorry you're having difficulty. About the only thing you can do is to keep her warm. Continue to monitor her eating habits. Make sure she stays hydrated. If you have to give her electrolyte solution a little at a time. Now one thing I do is put a soft banana and water melon in with her. They both have good vitamins and the melon will help to hydrate the chick. I even feed my healthy chicks this and they love it. Now when I hatch a new bunch I usually get a small healthy chick and put it in with the little ones. But it can't be much bigger than the smaller ones. Being that it already has eaten bananas and melon it does not take long for the new ones to start eating it all. It also shows the new ones the water and all this way you don't have to show the little ones about eating and drinking. It is so much easier. Good luck hope this might help.
This helps so much! Thank you so much, I'll feed her a banana/melon ASAP!So sorry you're having difficulty. About the only thing you can do is to keep her warm. Continue to monitor her eating habits. Oh man, hopefully that's worst case scenario!! Thanks for your helpAlso keep a eye on her poop. Check to see if there is any red or blood in it. If there is you have a serious problem. I can't think of anything else you can do. It could have hatched with a internal defect that you cannot treat.
Let me know how she does.Oh man, hopefully that's worst case scenario!! Thanks for your help
I recently introduced a new EE chick into the brooder box today, she's around 3 weeks old, and she seems sick!! I haven't seen her eat or drink, she always sleeps sprawled out like a puddle and is almost ALWAYS sleeping, her breathing seems really deep at times (almost like panting) What does this mean?? My main concern is her lack of appetite (at least from what I could see) and the manner in which she sleeps (really sprawled out and flat). Can anyone help!!??
This is by far the best advise I’ve received, thank you so much!! You’re a blessingHi @stephanieshim
Can you post some photos of your chick, the brooder set-up, how she is laying down and her poop? (If she is under a red heat lamp, turn that off temporarily for better photos)
How long have you had her?
What type of feed are you feeding - any treats - if you feed anything else besides chick starter does she have grit available?
What is the temperature of your brooder?
If you have not seen her eat or drink - getting her hydrated is the most important thing to do. If you have poultry vitamins or electrolytes add those to her water - but get her drinking. Once she is hydrated, then offer wet chick starter.
Panting and lethargy - she may be overheating - check the temperature of your brooder and make sure it's not too hot. At 3wks old temp under the light if you are using one should be around 80F or a little less depending on how feathered out she is.
Have only one spot of the brooder warm - let the rest be cool - keep food/water on the cool side.
It's possible she could be suffering from Coccidiosis - some of the most common symptoms are lethargy, loss of balance, loose droppings with mucous or blood and not eating/drinking well. Treatment is with Corid that can be found at most feed stores.
We look forward to your photos and more information so we can help you better.
