Urgent! please help male with prolapse!!!

Should I be giving him food? We have a crumble that they eat but we haven't let him eat anything since last night. He has been having water but no food. I just put it in but should he be eating?

Gonna do a late-night run for medical supplies. Any suggestions for supplies to get that will help with prolapse. (Ointments, oils medicine, etc) Names and links will help.

I would give him a bit of soaked feed, but make sure he's drinking well.
You can feed him bits of coconut oil.
For the exposed tissue it needs to stay moist with your ointment.

I worked for years as a vet tech (small animal) and every prolapse we dealt with we used sugar to reduce the swelling. Even when we ended up doing surgical repair we still used the sugar first to reduce edema (swelling). It's best if you can use a dextrose mix, but for practical purposes most people will use sugar mixed with distilled water..applied multiple times a day. Given his state of distress, if you don't already ferment his feed, it would be helpful. Take equal amounts of feed and water (if anything use less water than feed) and place in a loosely covered jar. Allow it to sit for up to 24 hours, serve it in a ramekin he can't scratch in. I have found they like it best if it's 24 hrs or less in the water. More than that and it gets too sour for quail. My birds prefer it a bit drier so I will reduce the water a bit. This will help with his hydration too. Good luck!

I don't know about fermenting his food or putting sugar on his butt. Are you sure it won't get sticky? Or he won't get sick or it would go bad sitting in water overnight?

The link someone else sent you also uses dextrose. Very common for prolapse. For birds the liquid may be a better option. I'm not sure what their status would be for hypo or hyperglycemia if they managed to ingest it. The fermented feed you can find a bunch of threads here on it. Makes hydration much easier, but your bird needs to like it. Mine really need it to be a bit dryer and I've got natural stone in there for them to clean their beaks off. I'm glad you baby is still there and sound like things are going okay!
