I'm so sorry you're both going through this. As far as getting food into her that will make a difference, feed her baby food...beef if you can find it, just make sure there isn't any onion in it. Beech Nut's Beef & Beef Broth (Stage 1) is perfect. We kept a paralyzed chicken alive by feeding her baby food (since she wasn't going to improve we had her put down) but it really helped keep her going. Add probiotic like Probios (found in feed stores -- not yogurt) to it and try to force feed it to her. Maybe she'll like it and start eating on her own. Our chicken also like a berry baby food mix too.

Not sure what's wrong with her but if it was mold, if you can get her to eat she might just pull through. Keep up with the electrolytes in her water too.

Yes you can give gatoraid. I aslo have a sick hen right now. Not sure what to do for her either. But this is about your girl. Will your chicken eat bannanas? That might help her a little... Sorry

Hi. I am so sorry for you and Agnes. Thank you for taking such good care of her. I've never had a sick hen but all the advice you've received sounds good. I might dilute the gatorade a bit as it is meant for beings much bigger than a one pound chicken.

Please remember to take care of yourself as well. Keep doing your best to take care of her and, at the same time, try to be still and not freak out. It is enough to know you're doing your best. Agnes will know it, too. This will help you both even if she dies. I am offering merit to you both.

I use Gatoraid (undiluted) for the first day or until the bird will drink larger amounts. I then dilute with water and gradually cut out the Gatoraid. Have some scrambled egg yolk waiting because she is most likely to eat within a few minutes of taking the Gatoraid. Try to offer high fat/ high protein foods. You can blend a little Gatoraid with the egg and yogurt (I've even put babyfood meat in it) to make a smoothy if she won't take solids. Keep giving the Polyvisol without iron.

I hope she pulls through this.
