I hope Dr. Whittington gets better too.

I will be checking on her a lot tonight to make sure that Quackers is okay. I was kind of worried about tube feeding her wrong but now I have someone to show my how.

I haven't had time to read all of the posts but thought I should post two good links on how to tube feed:

What once needs to get:
  • Size 18 french catheter
  • 35 or 60 ml catheter tip syringe
  • Kaytee Exact Baby Birds Food

The items look like this:

When I am going to give less than 60cc's, I use a 35cc catheter tip syringe like this one.

I am available by phone to give more specific instructions, just send me a PM once you have your supplies.

I'm sorry castportpony, I posted the other reply before I saw yours. Give me a minute, I will be right back to reply to that.

Very good diagrams and info Kathy.

I would point out that ducks don't have a crop as shown in the diagrams....theirs is more of an enlargement of the posterior esophagus rather than the true crop with musculature as in chickens,

You guys can call me Nicole by the way :)

What should I tube feed? Mashed food? The Kaytee feeding formula? Or the poultry vitamins?

I need to turn in, thanks everyone for the help. I have not had to do this with our ducks. I have saved the information so that if I need it, Lord willing I won't, but if I do, I ought to be able to find it again.

Nicole, take care, I plan to check in in the morning. Won't be able to be near the computer much tomorrow.

You, Quackers and Dr. Whittington will be on my mind and heart.

Thanks again, 1,000,000, mara1 and casortpony.

Since you have to go to the vet for supplies I would discuss it with him/her they should be able to advise supportive care/feeding/fluids ect.. or consult with some one else even if they don't regularly see ducks. I don't think you could go wrong using some sort of vitamin supplement with either mash or formula. Basically your trying to get the nutrients to sustain her while she recovers.
