URGENT...Transporting a grown fully feathered Peacock

Charlie is beautiful and his pen is nice too, maybe you can put some large tree branches in there so he can roost outside and maybe a girlfriend for Charlie so he won't be lonesome. I hear peacocks can make some pretty weird and loud noises tho.

I plan to do some more things tot he pen and make him a proper coop. This was kind of an emergency thing.

He make a sound like a Model A Fork when Alarmed. It is sort of cute and not nearly as loud as I tought it would be.

I am just very happy that I got him out of that nasty trap and out of the dog kennel that I had to transport him in. The only thing that I had as a perch was a 2" stake that I put i the corner of the pen. I don't think that he has used it yet. It is 4' off of the ground. I want to put a cover the area in the corner for shade and rain (which it is supposed to do this weekend, but I really want to build a building for a coop. I spent $400.00 on what you see in the picture. I need to wait till payday to build a building type coop.

I will give him a good home. Luckily we don't have allot of predators here and I have dogs that keep any that might come in away.

I have 3 peafowl eggs incubating now and if they hatch, maybe, I will have a peahen to keep him company when she gets older....uuummmm....more eggs to hatch.....

I am sure Charlie is way happier in that pen than that trap. Especially after three days in it.

He is very pretty.

That is a fine pen and a beautiful bird. The colors are so vibrant I wouldnt worry about worming it. Even though it looks extremly healthy I would still not allow it and your chickens on the same ground for 30 days.

The pen does have shade access right, I mean when the sun is full up. If it doesent a tarp across a corner will do the trick.

I added a tarp across half of the pen this morning. I just didn't have time last night. Now he has shade and protection from the weather until I can build a proper coop which will have to wait till payday unfortunately.

Also I have a couple of questions...

I know this will make me sound stupid, but my pride will have to get over it...since I didn't plan on having an adult peacock this soon..I thought I had time to do more research...and I have a bird that has been through allot and I want to make him as comfortable as possible. He has no issue whatsoever with me being in the pen with him. At first he "honked" when my dogs got around the pen, but now he doesn't even do that. In general he seems pretty calm. He paces a bit along the pen fencing, but other than that, he seems good. I just have some questions that I feel are very important right now.

Will an adult drink water from a regular 1 gallon waterer or do I have to use something else and do I have to raise it to the level of his back like you do chickens?

For feed, I got him a general poultry pellet (16% protein). I supplemented it with scratch (cracked corn and wheat). He has a section of lawn that he can eat grass and bugs from (16X16). Do I need to supplement him with live bugs and greens? If so, what kind?

I'm sorry for these questions, but I am worried that he isn't eating or drinking and I just got him last night, but he was in a live trap for 3 days prior to my getting him. I want to make sure that he is going to do fine here.

I would appreciate any help that you can provide.

Wow, what a gorgeous bird. If you can build a pen like that in 6 hours in an emergency situation, I really want to see your finished coop! Great job!

I give mine water in good sized low pans. They like to stand in the water.

Congratulations on a wonderful find for both you and him. I wish I could find one for free. I will be watching and learning your experiences so that I can be better prepared.

BTW, The dog (Kiaya) gets along great with my birds...my chickens love her. I have two others...one is 16 and she doesn't care at all about birds,,,she is in her own world (not in a bad way) and the third is getting a "training collar" soon before I get more chicks and keets and poults. She just pays too close of attention to them ( in the wrong way). We will correct that
