Hi there, I just recently got 17 beautiful babies. 7 of them are older chicks in a watermelon box as a brooder. They're about 27 days old at the oldest. One had a uri (I think) with wheezing and sneezing ,no runny nose or eye bubbles. Another has some sneezing. 5 others that are in the box do not have any symptoms. (Just so you know it was too late to seperate the two from the other 5 ) the first one is finally recovering and has no wheezing. The other one still sneezes but it hasn't gotten worse. We have been treating with apple cider vinegar, scrbled eggs, vitamin B12 and nutra drench around 3 times a day.
I have another watermelon brooder that has a hardware cloth window that connects to the older chick brooder. I have 10 chicks that are 16 days old in there with no signs of uri but I assume they might have gotten whatever virus in their system because of hardware cloth window.
I do not plan on culling my flock. I plan on treating them. I understand that the virus will stay in their system forever.
We do have tylan and another antibiotic (doxy) coming in the mail and I plan to treating all 17 chicks with an antibiotic.
Which antibiotic should I use ?
I would also like advice on integrating the smaller chicks with the bigger chicks.
I know many people advice to cull all the chicks but I'll just keep these guys as a closed flock. I don't plan to breed I'm just doing this for the eggs and pets. What should I expect integrating the younger ones with the older ones? Please help
Anyone have experience adding new chicks to an already infected closed flock?
