We have alot of local farmers out here (& everywhere) who need support, that raise their beef humanely and in a healthy environment. Factory farmers are just in it to make a buck without taking into consideration of the public health, they just, like this situation, hope they don't get caught! And as far as starving? DH & I have been vegetarians for over 25 years and we're hardly starving!

I'm not a vegetarian, and have no desire to become one.
Why is a vegetarian posting on a chicken forum since you obviously don't eat eggs and chicken?

No fighting!! But why is the P word umentionable? If meat eaters can speak their beliefs, why can't P word people be allowed to? I am a vegetarian and I completly respect everyone's beliefs. But I ain't starving!!! I think what you mean by starving is that if factory farms closed, people would eat so many plants to stay alive, that there wouldn't be enough to feed us all maybe?????

No, what I mean is IF you cut off half the worlds food supply people are going to get REALLY HUNGRY.

What do you think would happen if they closed all the gas stations tomorrow, that people would just have a nice stroll be fore their work day?

I'm a country boy, and I CAN'T grow all my own meat on my 2 acres, so what do people in the cities do that can't even grow a tomato plant?
MORE people live in cities then do the country, those people depend on these "factory farms" for their meat.
IF those factory farms were shut down tomorrow we WOULD have a serious food shortage problem.
IF they were phased out the COST of food would be prohibitive.

LIke I said, it's the way it is for a reason.

I don't know, (I do not question mods) maybe because the word causes too many arguments.

Anyhow, I wouldn't be placing bets on factory farms closing anytime soon. Too many people make too much money of from it. Really, I think the best we can hope right now is that stricter regulations be put in place and enforced.

I'm a meat eater, but I do believe in humane treatment of animals, whatever their ends may be. I buy as many local foods as I can, that's not always possible, especially when it comes to fruits/veggies.

What I was wondering when I saw the clip on TV was what is so news worthy about that? This has been going on for way too long already. In many places. I wont eat meat-Im afraid of it-and I cant eat it after seeing many videos about the treatment. What about the reports of backbone being in meat shipped over seas? Nothing has stopped factory farms from practising as they do. So I believe organization did what it had to do for the overall benefit of changing the structure of our food chain and animal practices. Even if it is flawed.

I think a drastic restructering would probably be a really good idea, and also help with the global warming issue. Go back to eating local foods. Use less gas, better care of animals, and better health for people. Some of the "food" in grocery stores today shouldnt even be called food.

I agree, animals should be treated humanly.
I worry a little about your statement that people make too much money.

It makes it sound as though that the bad old evil capitalists are at it again.
Lets not forget people go into business to MAKE money, and a person has every right to be paid for their efforts and investment.
Let's also keep in mind that food costs to us, the consumer, are lower as a result of their efforts, so we benefit in the fact that we have food and save money buying it, so we can afford our other needs as well.

I went in to a Tyson plant 15 years ago and haven't bought a Tyson chicken since, but that doesn't mean I don't understand the need for them to exist.

We do eat eggs & drink milk, just don't have to kill an animal to get it!
