I do work for a government agency and we will call, but only in response to correspondence you sent us, or if we sent you a letter and you did not respond.

If you are ever in doubt, don't give out any information. Believe me, we understand and are aware of the gazillion scams out there. Go to the agency's website and use the contact feature to verify the legitimacy of the call.

We will not push you for information if you don't want to give it. We will not make threats. We will direct you to our website and ask you to contact us from there and will provide you with the time to do so.

I can not stress this enough, THANK YOU FOR THIS. Having just went through the BS of identity theft of someone claiming unemployment, saying they were me, and the nightmare of getting stuff cleared up. Unfortunately it has been my recent experience that getting a real person to talk to at the IRS is an absolute lost cause. The state of Florida's unemployment office was about as bad getting a real person. Covid can make it VERY difficult to get real people but with that in mind, if you DO get a call, the moment someone tries to ask you for more information past are you Mr. or Mrs. so and so, its time to hang up. Especially if they are calling to 'verify' financial info or SSN's or stuff like that. or if they are trying to express how 'easy' it will be for you to just pay them over the phone to 'fix' a problem.

Another giveaway is, often time these fecal stains are calling from overseas call centers and you can hear people in the background yapping at their cubicles. Most govt agencies, and even companies, when you talk to a real person about a real thing, it's a private line, you don't hear that telemarketer jabber in the background, so if you hear that call center stuff when a person is connecting, it's probably a scam.

This morning, at about 4:30 AM, I got a text from a"cute old looking 28 year old female looking for a hook up today, just for oral" I was advised to call back if I was interested.
I deleted it and was told by my DD that I was "Porn Bombed" ?
I have never used my computer for Porn.

I note the conspicuous absence of your phone being used for such lascivious activities.

I got this nice call today.

Car warranty calls have damn near driven me to getting rid of phones all together. It seems every other call is somebody asking me to purchase a warranty for a car I don't even own.

Let make myself a little clearer: I do not do porn of any kind, using any device.
Do you understand better, now? I don't use my phone for anything other than what phones were invented for.

Right now we are all working from home, but we do actually have a call center and sometimes you will hear others in the background, however we try to have enough white noise in the background that you don't heat other conversations.

It's rare for us to call someone and have them NOT know why. Plenty of letters have been sent by that point. Granted, we do sometimes have the wrong number or an old number on file.

If you get a call, and have never received a letter, hang up and call the agency directly. Just to be safe.

And yes, good luck getting a live person at the IRS. We hear that a lot. And I do not work for the IRS.
