From what I read, there was dairy in the meal, but no vegetables. The girls mother said her daughter would not eat the veggies so she did not include them in the lunch. Instead, she put in 2 fruit servings. It is unclear if the lack of veggies was why the lunch was deemed unbalanced. The child was given a school lunch which included chicken nuggets and other items. The girls home lunch was not taken away, later in the story it says the child returned home with her home packed lunch, uneaten.

According to the article the FDA says two servings of fruit or vegetables. Then commented on the lack of dairy.

MAJOR EDIT: the dairy part I misinterpreted. here is the line "With a turkey sandwich, that covers your protein, your grain, and if it had cheese on it, that's the dairy,"

OMG, to quote my kids....

The government is not innately evil and out to get us. We generally get the government we want...we are unable to elect anyone without big money and the agenda's that come with it. We are unable to elect anyone who tells the truth...to balance the budget we need to increase revenues and cut programs. This means more taxes and cutting popular programs. For most Americans do not even know what limitations the Bill of Rights place on the government.

This is not a vast government conspiracy...it was one idiot going too far.

As for wanting the government out of my life...

I like that when I fly I have standards for air traffic control, lisensing for pilots, safety standards for airplanes, National Weather Service warnings, and baggage screening.
I like that my mom and MIL get social security and medicare.
I like that my kids go to free school, with free books, in buildings that are safe, and are taught by qualified teachers.
I like that the food I buy has to be wholesome and contain the ingredients that the label says it does, and I like the label. I like that the weights for the food and for the gas are standardized.
I like driving on roads without paying a toll, I like knowing that those roads are engineered for driving at the posted speeds, I like that there are speeds posted, I like that the guys designing the roads had to pass a test to prove that they knew what they were doing.
I like going to parks, and having the trash that I put out on the curb is picked up, I like having the police available 24/7, ditto the fire department.

I don't want the government out of my life....I like the things that a reasonable government makes possible. I don't agree with everything and there is always room for improvement, but I don't want them out of my life, or anyone else's for that matter.

Well said. There are a lot of things wrong with our country but we are able to fix them, and speak out about the injustices that accrue. That is our greatest gift, the ability to speak up, speak out, and take things into perspective.

Your post was made even more powerful to me because I am currently watching a documentary on the horrors currently being inflicted upon the people of North Korea by their own government.

I am glad to be in an industrialized nation.

I think most of what you listed are corporate rights or what is referred to in the Constitution as "providing for the general welfare". What is at stake here is personal freedom.
