The part that I was talking about was protesting and you can not always express certain view points on t-shirts especially if it shows drugs, alcohol, or the mere formation of breast. I am only speaking for my school system.

Edit: Also if you say words that could be considered curse words but that is also against the law in tennessee.

The promotion of illegal activity's are not protected anywhere... Nether is obscenity. Protesting as long is it does not "disrupts classwork nor invades the rights of others" is protected. What school you go to does not change that.

OK, glad to hear you don't agree, but very interested in what YOU think? Not what
the "officials" think! in regards to a four year old's lunch being taken away, because a
government official didn't like what he was eating for lunch.

Easy there cravenchx. I think you're getting over excited, here. Mathew's opinion is just as valid.

If freedom of speech does not cover illegal activities then why do people protest about illegal activities then? The specific shirt was a the word cannabis with it crossed out and above the influence on the back. Freshman year a kid had on a Budweiser T-shirt and was forced to change shirts. So yes it is limited.

These threads are always so over the top with knee-jerk reactions. Somebody makes a mistake somewhere and now it's a conspiracy for the government to violate the rights of our children. Wow... really? It has gotten to the point people are calling other forum members government agents. I just can't believe my eyes sometimes. If you are getting this bent out of shape over a minor mistake like this then it's going to be a disaster when you come across a real problem.

Will probably get the this thread closed with this comment, but,
It's not a minor mistake if someone or something does not allow my
child to eat the lunch I packed for him/her!

Well what would you do then, cravenchx? yank your kid out of school and start home schooling? Maybe even sue the school for a million dollars?

It seems that just because you have a reason to be upset doesn't mean you need to start world war three over it. It was clearly a mistake, the DHHS official said it was a mistake, and it probably won't happen again. And like Kristy said, the details are so limited at this point who knows what really happened.

I agree. There is a lot of injustice in this world, a lot of scary things are happening, and while what happened, (if the article is truthful) was wrong, it isn't worth getting super upset over.

See this is what I hate about schools today. They teach kids calculus an other junk they probably will never use but they don't teach them the basics of constitutional law.

What is an is not protected is almost identical weather you are in school or not. Beer ads are not protected. Never have been an they are banned in many countys.
