While most of us were taught (or at least I was taught) in elementary school that masculine pronouns (he, his, him) should be used as the default pronoun in situations where the person, animal or thing could be either male or female (or the gender is unknown), In general, I am seeing a growing trend of people using the feminine gender (she, hers, her) as the default gender. So, it is confusing me when so many of you are referring to your newly hatched chicks as "she". Are you ALL referring to sexed FEMALE chicks?
