Used cat litter as a pest deterrent?

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on, or experience using used cat litter to deter unwanted pests. I have used compostable litter for quite some time and have always just dumped the spent litter into the woods surrounding my land. The litter consists of pine and cedar shavings, and crushed walnut shells... and just the litter, not the poo, gets dumped in the woods.

My coop itself is pretty secure (3 feet off the ground with a concrete floor and heavy duty latches on all doors), but I have been working on the run design and got to thinking about predators.... and how I haven't seen any signs of them. We do have hawks, and I planned on covering the run to protect against them, but other than a plethora of squirrels, rabbits, and moles.... I haven't really noticed any other wildlife. Do you think this has anything to do with the litter in the woods?
