Using a plastic dog create

That would work ,duck tape it together from underneath and the sides..
I’ve used a cardboard box or two myself , cut a doorway in between them for more room .

They have wing and tail feathers , you probably have 2-3 weeks til they’re ready .If you get some dirt in a dish for them they will dig and eat it , I put mine in a pie plate it helps build up their immunity eating soil .

Have fun
It’s getting cold here I’m in Manitoba ,

Yeah I have a coupe built in my backyard but the temperatures are getting cooler here as I live in Nova Scotia and they don't have their full feathers yet so I don't think it would be a good idea to put them out there at the moment. I've seen some people use the top of the crate to make the chicken brooder longer for more space. And then they just put chicken wire over the top of the whole thing so they couldn't fly out. Does that sound like a good idea?

You could do that as well. As long as they can’t get out, have light, and ventilation. Snow 5164 makes good point make sure you are weaning room temperature by 5 degrees each week every 5-7 days so they don’t go from 95 to 65-70 degrees temps overnight when put out. :thumbsup

I would not cut into that pet carrier you have them in, save it for when you might need it later on to transport them or isolate someone. Instead just buy a larger plastic bin or two and put them in there instead, you can cut a hole at the top for ventilation and light.

If you can get cardboard that's tall and move them to a garage or shed with power you can set them up into a bigger area. Only heat part of the Brooder and they will acclimate quicker.
I just have a small shed with no electricity and right now I just have a space heater, don't have a heat lamp yet but will probably get a small one for in the coop

I don’t know bout the soil thing but I use dried mealworms, greens, and chic grit after two weeks rationed. Helps them to learn foraging skills and adds protein through the mealworms. The grit to aid digestion.
