Do you think it could/would make chickens sick to use an old dog kennel/run for their coop & run? The coop is about 10'x4' the run is 11'x20'. Has anyone ever done this?

My son got 2 ducks in April and we put them in our old 8'x8' wire dog kennel, they use the wooden dog house for nesting and are perfectly happy and healthy.

I guess i should add it's a dirt run with pea gravel & sandy so where the dogs have urinated & pooed shoudn't hurt the chickens. The run has been dog free for months.

you will want to put chicken wire around the bottom of the cage, we put some young chickens in our old dog kennel, and a raccoon can grab a chickens head through the holes.
otherwise it works great.

I second the idea of modifying the kennel, we had a racoon get a few of our pullets this summer. The kennel was a place we were using to let the birds get big enough till we could introduce them to the rest of the chickens in the regular run/coop area. we have used it for this before and never had a problem with racoons but this summer we did

I lined the bottom of our dog kennal in chicken wire to nothing could try to grab them. I imagin if a coon wanted so badly it could still grab them. A couple days ago we had a kitten problem...A little kitten kept getting into the chicken house
