Using cayenne for parasite control?

Other than having a vet do a fecal count, there isn't a surefire one. Occasionally you may see a worm in poop but this is pretty unusual, What the vet checks for is microscopic in size. If they get heavily infested they will act sick -- droopy, eating little resting a lot, maybe fluffed out, that sort of thing. They can die if it gets this bad.

About 30 years ago an old farmer told me a something at the time i thought was nuts .. He told me in the winter when the hens slacked off on laying to put red pepper in the feed as it would raise their body temp and they would lay more.. I thought this was crazy but being the type of guy i am i had to try it.. Hey folks it actually does work.. I dont know the clinical reason and dont care if it works and dont harm the hens...As for worming them with it i dont know but it sure makes sense ...

That`s a good point. I`ve heard of this from a couple sources recently. I can`t imagine how it could work if they don`t feel the heat, but something has to cause it. Ever hear of anyone taking a birds temp before and after?........Pop

They may also lay better once parasite free? It could even be a little of both ?

Of course!!!!!!!!! Now I know why Eskimos eat so much cayanne. Raises the body temperature so they can survive. Plus it makes walrus meat particularly delicious. Maybe enough hot pepper would make them lay eggs too? The Eskimos- not the walruses.

You can also feed breeding chickens popcorn instead of regular. It make the chicks hatch, well, like popcorn, when you heat the eggs up to incubation temperature.

Fish meal in feed also kills worms. Scares the worms to death. To a worm the meer thought of there being fish coming down the pipe- deader'n a plastic Christmas tree.

Everybody knows this stuff. Scientific facts.
