using golf balls for nesting boxes?

Have golf balls in both nests, my chicken who laid for the first time today tried to do it every where but the nest with the golf ball lol, in fact, when the coop was built the man made the nest boxes on the out side of the coop and he measured wrong and they were to short, but she got up there and made her own nest . We filled it with shavings a month ago, and today she hopped up there and kicked all the shavings around until she was satisfied lol. The egg of course landed on the floor, I will be figuring out how to not let this happen again
