Using old wood to build a coop????... PICS

Quote:
My 16 year old son has torn down our building almost single handed. Dad builds while he tears it down. My daughter and I have become quite handy pulling nails!

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto!!! Wish that was next to me. I read in an old "How to" book that (after you sand down some areas) you can scrub brush the wood with a mild solution of bleach water to clean it.

I have been buying cull wood from Home Depot all Summer and have built lots of great stuff like a milking stantion for my goats that I don't even milk yet, a nesting box, tables, Chuck Wagon (well, I've started it anyway). I see so many projects there.......... Can I come over and play?

LOL Sure... you can help me figure out what to do with it all!

I will have to have DH go have a talk with him and see what he wants to do. I know they want it gone... but hopefully they will not be greedy when they find out that we want it.

you can build some very nice buildings out of the good lumber in that one. Years ago, I had a 50'x100' barn that needed to come down. A tornado got a little bit too close to us and did structural damage.

My neighbor, who had raised his family in my house and had that barn long before me asked if he could take some of the lumber before we knocked it down. He spent a few good days pulling all kinds of lumber off of it, and built a couple of smaller buildings on his land next door then.

His buildings turned out beautiful and I am so glad he had the chance to reuse some of it.

Take what is good and try to reuse it. It really would be a shame to let it go into the hole.

Good luck to ya!

OOOHHH!! Start Dreaming!! If you could have anything you want (Building wise) What would it be?

....and do you have to tell them what you are planning? Just tell them you will get rid of it for them and they don't even have to pay for labor.

Guitarists, you should absolutely not touch that barn! It could be dangerous. Please let me know where you live and I'll come and safely remove it for you - at no charge, too

zip any old flooring threw a planer, and I bet you'll find some gorgous heart pine... even small stuff could make beautiful small boxes or picture frames. We built our coop with barn wood siding and we are building our next coop with it.

It is absolutely beautiful and has already been weathered for a hundred years!!! There is no question.. USE IT...or call me and I'll come and get it
