Utah!

Do you know if it is a raccoon or skunk?
We had skunks digging in to the coop last year and I kept putting cement blocks around and filling holes. Nothing worked. So I had all the nephews and men folk come over and pee all over the fences and around the base of the coop....Never had any more problems after that.

Yep, I will support Blu's suggestion here fully. My grandpa used to do the same thing in his back yard to keep the stray cats out. He'd pee at different spots along his fence, and that solved that! It sounds weird, but it really does work very well.

And I agree, it sounds like a coon or skunk. Nasty things.

good morning all

Have any of you in Magna had night time early morning preditor problems? The girls have been outside since April with no issues,. However just in the last 5 days I have found the something has been diging into the run.I have fixed the first spot with pavers and it just moved. I have dug down and put in a wood and wirecloth and it still dug down tothe wireeven trying to pull it up. What ever it is it can move dirt. iIt seem to only need about3" to clear under the bottom rail of the run. Looks like I will be moving some dirt myself to addsome more depth for the rails.

Other wise weare now getting avarge of 5 eggs a day 2blue/green and 3brown. That leaves 1 we are stl leaves 1 of the sexlinks we are not sure of. It is so great to go out and see what they have left. I do have a cam in the coop so wecan see if the nest are busy and we have seen most the girls in the boxes . Also nice to see them ok at night. tThe timing of the lays are fun 1 or 2 by 8am and again by 11am with last by3pm, so all day thing, so we have just started collecting about2-3pm.

Ed and I went out but saw no showers. Just a satelite

I checked last night, too, but I think we have too much smoke in the air right now. I could only see the brighter stars that are usually visible.

Red! WE could have a fence peeing party and go from house to house getting them all done up lol

Cynthia, we have found ourselves some new exciting entertainment. How little it takes to entertain us these days, eh? haha!
I might be dangerous this week with my kids gone......apologies in advance for my rambling!

I need to go read that article now. I've always felt like barking dogs are infinitely more obnoxious that a few clucky little chickens. And dog doodoo stinks way worse than chicken poo. Phew!

I think I must be doing something wrong here with prospective new layers. None of my younger girls that are of age are laying yet. I have three that are red, red, red! Sheesh, aggravating..........

I am 15 days into my first attempt every to incubate some eggs. Yesterday my 14 year old son and myself were wondering if our attempt was progressing. Fast forward 24 hours and the 19 month old somehow wondered into his bothers room got an egg out of the incubator and broke it open...incubation is progressing!

Speaking of being annoying, I have to beg....hey Sundance get those pictures going haha! I have so far resisted the 99 cent chick sale at CAL ranch, but the baby pics are the only thing keeping me outta that store! Pretty Please

Sundance, I do not know why this is my reaction, but I feel like racing down to our CAL and tyring to snap up the last ones if any are left ! I have chicken math so bad. ugh.

Well hope you find your camera soon. What kind did you just hatch? How many did ya get? We need the exciting details....

I think the pee thing really may be on to something. I have a friend in Hooper who has chickens. She hasn't nothing over the top of her run, and her fence is only about 4' high. She is on the edge of the neighborhood, with hundreds of acres of wilderness/grazing to the west of her. She sees critters all the time- she even had a fox raise kits not more than 200 feet from her chicken coop. Yet she's never had a predator mess with her birds. She does have two dogs though, and I'm wondering if they act as a huge deterrent. On the other hand when we had our infamous attack, my neighbor lost 12 chickens, and she has three dogs. So, who knows?
