Utah!

Cynthia, yes that cuckoo looks to be bearded. :) The buff looks the most girly to me of the three though. I am getting pretty sure I have one of each with the buff....and no idea on the others still. I really love your buff :love I hope yours are all girls!! But something about the orangeness makes me think boy on the cuckoo? JUST a guess, I could very likely (probably!) be wrong. It sure looks like it could still go either way.

I let my Polish babies out of the cage in the henhouse and they have been in the run almost all day today, the chase is on. So far so good, but they are going to be worn out by tonight. Those big girls are giving them a hard time.

Hope you get feeling better soon Ithildyn and Cynthia! That is rotten to be sick with it so early in the cold season.. Maybe you will get it over with and be done for the year!

Sundance, fun purple coop loL! Love it!

You like my buff..she's yours. I need to place her..I want my cuckoo to be a girl!!!!!!

I really like my BCW..the coloring is very unique.

Who was it that said she was still coughing..it's going around! All three of us are still coughing, and Austin has been feeling pretty good now, just still has that hang on cough. Guess Scott and I will too..it does get old!

Cynthia, I agree with birdman. Thank you for hatching out so many fun babies for us! I can't tell you how much I love my Exchequer. She's quite the character. I never thought I'd be able to get one of those. I love all my babies, but she is so distinct.

Lilwanis, congrats on your first egg!! Wahooo!!!

It is so fun to find that first surprise. And it's just as much fun with every new layer, too.

Sphinx, glad you like my bratty birds, hehe. Thanks

This morning, I let them out one at a time so that I could grab everyone with a clipped wing. Re-clipped them all, and it is working better. My Exchequer still got out within minutes. I could hear her cackling on the lawn before the breakfast feeding frenzy was even done. "I still got out! Nya nya!" So I grabbed her and chucked her (gently) back into the game preserve. She stood there under the bushes sulking and giving me a crabby look. When I threw in some handfuls of grass for everyone to munch on, she just glared at me like, "Don't patronize me. There's a ton of perfectly good grass right there. I'll get my own, thank you!" She refused to touch the stuff I'd thrown in. Poor girl really isn't happy that I'm being a mean mom. She's my smart child - she gets bored quick and finds new ways to escape. I'm pretty sure that she's the one that taught three of the others how to get on top of the shed and escape the preserve

Red, maybe you should get some bird netting to keep them in there.

I think Sundance makes a great point, Cynthia. If you're not feeling well, you maybe shouldn't make a big decision. If nothing else, I am thinking that incubators will sell better in Feb/March. That's when people start thinking about hatching, and you'd probably fetch a better price then.

Sphinx help..I think you are the one that helped me last time. I am having that problem again where some words are highlighted..only not blue this time..orange! Crazy. I can't remember what I did to stop it??

Oh and the highlighted words take you to search links to buy stuff? I bet you have some spyware on your computer again. Clear out all history, close all tabs but a basic google, then try running your spy sweeper, spybot, or whatever virus sweeper you have. Then restart your computer and see if that fixes it.

I'm a little concerned. My enormous chick, the cockerel, is suddenly only wanting to walk on his hocks. Not sure what would happen at this point, I think they're 3 weeks old or so. He's huge, twice as big as the other one.

Yes Sphinx, I have PC Optimizer Pro. I didn't have to clean my history, just had it scan for me..I just did that last week, didn't think there would be any problems, but tried that..and it worked!

I grow huge sunflowers for my girls every year. Then, just cut the big flower off, and throw it down for them. It's gone by the next day. I also feed them BOSS when they are moulting. That's the Black Oil Sunflower. They love it. Just so you don't give them salted seeds.
Spinach is a great treat for them. Mine love it. I just buy a bunch every now and again. Left overs too, if it is anything pasta they love it. Scratch is the best thing to keep them busy. They get to ... scratch in the ground. What a chicken does. :)) Corn scratch isn't as good for them in the heat, but great for them in the winter..warms them up.
Who else? What do you all feed your chickens in the winter?
