Utah!

Whew! I meant to be on here long before now. I'm up in Paradise visiting a friend, but will be going home in a bit. Finally got Sasha's incubator to her. I just about forgot it at home, then had to turn around and go get it. Blah, lousy memory.

So, without giving details, yesterday went well. I now get to see my BF again, yay! I don't know how else to explain it without people thinking I'm really weird or something.

My blue splash just went broody. Knew it was coming, she has been acting..and sounding funny lately. Cluck..cluck...cluck...and flapping her wings making funny noises while she flaps.
I need a few eggs for her.

And, if a chicken train is going to happen, remember, I have baby chicks...free! Australopr dad..and a RIR for the chipmunk baby, and yellow baby. Blue Orpington moms..but most of the babies came black..8 black babies, and only 4 other colors. Some of the black have that fluffy face, and green legs.

I have 3 broody hens sitting on fake eggs. I don't want any winter babies.

Sundance, I just went and got some barn yard mixes from a friend for my girl. It's her first time. I have a great warm place for her and her chicks if they hatch.
The eggs are huge! I got 5, but only put three under her. Will try and get the others to hatch in my bator, Now watch, just because I need them to hatch fro her, they won't. Or, maybe they will. Plus the three under her. Oh dear.

Sundance, I remember the blue chicken story lol that is pretty funny! My poor broody girls just got no eggs. Well, they took about 4 weeks to get off the darn nest. Maybe I should have given them something to sit on!

Cynthia...you cannot stop yourself lol It is way too funny you have a few more eggs in. It works for me, I get my chickie pictures, I definitely need a fix now and then or I will not be able to wait a few more months. You are so cute with your hatching, I love it! Are you going to do the NY day hatch along?

Red, Good to see you! She stopped by in Logan for a chat. What a fun visit! Sorry about the soggy yard shoes lol! You are not weird not one bit. Just as sweet as can be. I think you should be my adopted daughter. We could have so much fun :p

Sphinx, how awesome you are to bring chicken soup to sundance! I had to giggle, just a little, at the irony of 'chicken' soup :D

Soooo Sasha, how long before you fire up that bator? hmm?

red you are one of the most down to earth people i know and you have a heart of gold. i honestly do not know how someone could think you are weird. you are special but not in a short bus kind of way :D

I haven't seen the falcon for couple weeks and the doves and quail are back helping them selves to the wheat i throw out for the chicken to eat at their leisure. Yesterday i let the bantams out of their run to mix back in with the flock. Today i seen a Silkie who is not happy with her peaking order and was fitting with Little Girl, the second ranked hen in the flock. Little Girl is in the middle of her molt and stays to her self lately except to hang out with Big Mama the #1 hen. She was holding her own but Rusty our rooster thought it was his responsibility to intervene. Since Rusty has been in chicken jail with the silkie i guess he thought Little Girl was trying to hurt her. I hope the Silkie lets the fight go with this small win. If she goes after The Buff Orp's she might get killed. They don't fight fair and often team up on a hen or rooster to prove they are not to under them in the pecking order. Thought i would sure a picture of rusty. Oh ya im stilllooking for some young RIR bantam hens for Rusty. If anyone has any that they ended up with and want to get rid of.

Sundance, glad you liked the chicken soup. I purposely picked that for two reasons- it's good for healing and the idea of it made me giggle a little.

Red, I'm glad you got good news yesterday!

Cynthia, good luck with your broody. I can't wait to hear how it goes.

I got roosters swapped with Sundance yesterday. Houdini, as I've named the new cockerel looks like he'll be a gorgeous, sweet boy. I put him in the hen house last night after everyone was settled in, and nobody noticed. This morning, I went out to check on him. I wish I'd brought my camera, it was so funny! My black copper marans hen was in the nest box, trying to lay, and he was crammed in there with her. She looked so annoyed, like "geez kid, give me my SPACE!!".

In other cool news, I think I got my first egg from Shirley, my mutt chicken. She was an egg I pulled from my friend's "eating" eggs basket- was a medium brown egg. She looks like she's either a black sex link, or possibly a welsummer/black copper marans mix.

Here's a picture of the eggs I've collected so far today. Shirley's (?) is the one marked "mutt".

Edited to add: It's kind of interesting and stressful to watch the chickens establish pecking order, isn't it MadChicken? I never know if it's good to intervene or not, and I just hope nobody gets hurt.
