That is sooo frustrating! Sorry to hear that! But hey! look on the bright side! The days are getting longer... which means you'll be getting more eggs soon! YAY!

And just to add to the list of hens folks are selling, I brought down 2 of my BLRW Splash hens a couple of weeks ago and was just out there looking at them. They are standing next to the one hatchery stock BLRW I have just for table eggs and, holy cow, the difference is seriously striking. The blue on mine is very distinctive and the lacing nicely defined. However, I usually only keep one Splash hen for breeding and there are several more up at the land, so I'm thinking to sell these two, If anyone wants them. They are from last years hatch, so a little less than a year old. Not laying yet, but I haven't kept lights on any of my girls and the Isbars are the only two that have started laying. I have a whole two eggs from them. Pretty eggs, though. Anyone have anymore Isbars they are willing to part with?

Swiftra, if you get Buckeyes, I'd be interested to hear what you think of them. Opinions on them seem to be mixed, from what I've seen, but they sound interesting.

Cyndiloo, you go ahead and party!

We all have a pity party day at some time. I usually have several, hehe. I understand how discouraging that is about the roosters and the eggs. For a while there, I was getting one egg every couple of days from my flock (of about 14 potential layers) while everyone else's pullets were starting to lay like crazy. I felt pretty discouraged, too. And then when my hens in Tooele were getting killed and all I had left were roosters, that just left a sour taste in my mouth. Don't give up, though. Happier times will come

Corvidae, I have been wishing that I had room in my flock for one of your BLRW. Dang! Maybe I'll have to get some eggs from you, at some point down the road. Where did you get your stock from, anyway? I have noticed that the blue in them is so much darker than in a lot of other BLRW's.

Hi Sasha!

I've actually gotten the stock from several different sources, a few of which are coming down from Foley and Paul lines. I have some eggs coming this week from yet another source that are just from Foley lines. Then I just take the best looking ones to breed and go from there. Haven't had tome yet to pick my best this season ( i like to wait until they are full grown before picking), but I don't like to have too many splash in the group. Most of my own that I hatched last year were blues and blacks, but there were a few splash here and there, genetics being what they are.

*Warning* PITY PARTY *Warning*

I am pouting because it looks like one of my 9 wk OE girls is a cockerel, which would mean of my last hatch 9 out of 12 were roos

AND all 3 of the FBCMs chicks I bought are looking like boys now too! It is impossible to learn how to determine gender if I only ever have roos.
I have 8 laying hens in my #1 coop and I'm only getting 1 egg every other day.
I am getting really discouraged. I have chickens & incubators everywhere -and I'm not getting any closer to having even enough eggs for my family.

It stopped being fun when they are always roos, I can't keep roos

Okay, I'm done. Pity party over. Thanks for letting me rant.

OOH been there done that, sucks, I;m still trying to place roosters

Oh, I almost forgot-- we are also planning to send 4 of the 6 Cream Legbar Roos to freezer camp as soon as I have time. If anyone wants any of them (Free, of course) let me know in the next week or two and I'll bring them down for you. Otherwise, it's off with their crowing little heads!

Any pics of your BCM's? In my line, even the pullets can get what looks like a roo'ish comb. If they are truly cockerals, it's obvious at 6 weeks old but not always before that. I've had BCM chicks that everyone guesses as being males, but they end up being females.

Michelle that gives me hope! I can post some as soon I am home tonight.
Thanks for the support everyone. I think I need less winter.

Can you see the pretty moon from where you are?
