Utah!

Michelle that gives me hope! I can post some as soon I am home tonight.
Thanks for the support everyone. I think I need less winter.

Can you see the pretty moon from where you are?
Pullets will have a hawkish, flat forehead while males have a more roundish skull. Well.....with my birds, anyway.

I don't know what the moon looks like tonight. I'm snuggled down cuddling with my puppy on the couch and I'm not getting up to check. LOL

cyndi, I know you said you have a lot of chicks..not sure what you are going to do. I can't have roosters either. I have a bator full of olive eggers. Maybe you can get a couple of pullets from me. I would be doing the same thing, watching for the signs of a girl. I think I do ok with it. Let me know!

Sundance, see you in the morning! Ahh, more hugs from a BYC friend. :))

Cyndiloo, I was just at Blujems/Slvrphoenix's house tonight looking at her BCM and we were talking about these......if the males were not there to compare you would think that female was a boy! And she too thought the boys were 2 girls and the girl was her rooster....The BCM girls get more red than a lot of other breeds when they are little I have noticed.... But the head shape gives them away, the boys do have smaller rounder heads, at least in the lines that come from Michelle :) Then the boys have white fluff on the neck a little longer than the girls, the girls fill in faster and are more solid black on the heads and neck before the boys are. Also interesting-- I keep the petite chicks, which turn out to be boys, then the bigger ones turn out to be girls, their heads seem bigger--more elongated as they mature. Stinkers always trying to fool us. I have spent hours staring at those chicks, trying to figure them out :p They almost seem backwards of other breeds to me. Oh and the girls get the long tail first and the boys have little stumps for quite awhile. Pics really would help a ton, I bet Michelle can tell you in a heartbeat what you have :) The thing she said about the girls having a hawk look is spot on. Almond shaped heads.

Got some pretty eggs from Blujems, speaking of FBCM :) I sold all mine, and meant to keep one, so I am setting 9 tomorrow morning, and a few more EE eggs from her Sparkles. We are gonna get a baby girl from Sparkles! yay! The last one was a boy for sure.

Slvrphoenix--good to see you guys tonight! Thanks for taking those boys off my hands. I love having a place to take the boys. And the baby goats were amazingly cute. Very hard to walk out of there without a couple baby goats haha! I really like the girl with the white hat.

SASHA!!!!!!! Hello! I for one, have missed you like crazy. Keep thinking of you, and saying to myself I need to check up on you! I cannot believe you are parting with Clay. $10 is a steal considering what you paid to get that boy hatched :) Your birds have turned out so pretty, I love the calicos they are so pretty! Good thing you are hatching bantam, I would be tempted to buy too many chicks this season with you this close and that nice bator you have now. Good luck with your hatches, stay in touch!

Red, sorry to hear of your sad day you had. Just think, for every bad news you get out of the way NOW, the more good news has to come NEXT. Right?~! Right. Hugs to you, if you were ice cream you would be one of my favorite flavors. You are as sweet as they get, and I will be excited when that wedding day comes! It will! good things come to those who wait.
.....

Oh how I wish I was better at this.
Lisa thank you so much for the detailed explanation! Maybe I just need to pack all my birds up and come visit for hands-on opinions.
I liked what you said about staring at them, my kids keep teasing me about that. They find me sitting and staring at them all the time- my son asked if I am trying to intimidate them into being girls
wink.png
I told him that I gave the eggs a STERN talking to while candling!

Red- Thank you, you reminded me that I didn't lose any birds this year. I need to count my blessings for sure! YAY for longer days it Will get better!

Cynthia, thank you for the offer. I would love one!

Here are the pretty chickies they are 3 1/2 weeks old

#3 originally I was SURE this one was a pullet because she got a tail fastest and is more feathered over all

Just for fun the little Wheaten OE I just love the colors on her.

Oh, Michelle you were right! (no big surprise) I brought home babies from IFA and put them right in the brooder with these 4 and other than the big kids checking and double checking to see if the new babies toes might be mealworms the big kids have been great with the babies! They all snuggle right up!

Oh my cute son named his black NN turken "Olive Oyl" from Popeye. Makes me giggle

Hi aravis! Did you see that I am giving up my Swedish Flower Hen? I think you got the sweet one. I think Donna will be great with her. She can have more chickens too.

Hey, my Australorp squat for me yesterday, so if I remember, you got one of those. Is she getting real red in the face? Squatting? You should be getting an egg from her soon. The leghorn many start laying as she is starting to get more red. He comb will get more red..can't remember if you got a leghorn? Anyway, all of yours should be getting close. By next month for sure! If you have a chance post some pictures. I would love to see a picture of the blue Swedish Flower. Hope they are doing well in this snow!

No, I didn't see that you're giving it up! How come? I just love mine, the black one is my sweetest chicken. Always first to come up and see me when I go out there and usually first to come get treats when I'm offering them.

My Australorp is just starting to get red, but the black Swedish Flower is redder. No Leghorn, I have a buff sex link, she and the gray Swedish Flower are still pretty pale in the face. I hope they lay soon! I'm so excited! I've started asking them when they're going to lay for me. :)

I have a quick question about my little blue Swedish Flower actually. She has a section of feathers by her tail that look like they've been cut off. I'm pretty sure she's at the bottom of the flock just from watching her behavior so I suspect this is just an aspect of that, but wanted to ask you folks if I should be worried or look more into that.

Here are some pictures. As always my black Swedish Flower (Martha) is my little camera hog. :)

yeah one thing you should get is the comfrey, it comes up yearly and is so useful and can be fed to chickens and other pets. it speeds up healing among other things.
red you should get lemon balm, not only will it add lemon flavor to anything but its one of the best medicinal herbs. sorry about all that stuff with your bf ex, that is so frustrating. and i think its great you come here to vent. we are like a family here and i love that we can share like that.
so do you know about how much you will be selling your cream legbar chicks for?
hide.gif

I forgot to comment on your plants last night.. I have grown amaranth, too... very cool plant, very pretty, and LOTS of seeds, it grows like a weed in my garden. I also have comfrey... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the comfrey.. you can make a fertilzing tea out of it, kind of like the Save-A-Tree you can buy at the stores. Great plant.. Oh, and I'm still debating on the price... I know they sell for ridiculous amounts of money from some places.. I would like to give you all a good deal on them... still up in the air as to what that 'deal' would be... what do ya'll think is a fair price?

Ohhh goodie, SFH chicks!
clap.gif
That sounds great. Keep me in touch, I really want some of your chicks when you sell them. I loved having a flock of randomly mixed chickens, the veritiy made everyday chores so much fun.
Where, and how much? :D put me on the list, I don't want to miss them! You said something about Chickenstock but...
hu.gif
dunno what that is.
You are definitely on the SFH list=)

No fees to come... I'm working on a couple of sponsors again this year and we'll have some silent auction items as well.. Can't do the raffle this year but we're going to do a few other things to cover costs... I'm sure you'll end up with a chick or two for coming!! I gave away over 200 chicks to kids last year.. Do you have a kid at home?
Auntie... we'll be coming down the end of June for a family reunion... might have to come see your chooks!!

YAY!!!!!!!!

And just to add to the list of hens folks are selling, I brought down 2 of my BLRW Splash hens a couple of weeks ago and was just out there looking at them. They are standing next to the one hatchery stock BLRW I have just for table eggs and, holy cow, the difference is seriously striking. The blue on mine is very distinctive and the lacing nicely defined. However, I usually only keep one Splash hen for breeding and there are several more up at the land, so I'm thinking to sell these two, If anyone wants them. They are from last years hatch, so a little less than a year old. Not laying yet, but I haven't kept lights on any of my girls and the Isbars are the only two that have started laying. I have a whole two eggs from them. Pretty eggs, though. Anyone have anymore Isbars they are willing to part with?
hide.gif
There's a chance I will end up with some Isbar chicks, as well

(I'm starting to feel obnoxious)

I candled my eggs tonite... ALL Marans and Ameracauna eggs are developing!!!!
woot.gif
set 20, pulled 2 that are clear, which would have been easter eggers... silly hen probably wouldn't let that young annoying Amer cockerel near her, lol

Oh, and Aravis... love the pics of your birds!! Cyndiloo.. not experienced enough with those MArans yet to comment... I'm sure Michelle can help you=)
