Utah!

Hey. I just got back from visiting with Sasha! And I brought home a friend. (Hedwig)

We went to IFA and got feed, if Mike hadn't of been with me I would have brought home the cutest little Brown easter egger.

Hedwig is reunited with her siblings! Yay! Way to go Mike for keeping her in line lol.

I just ordered Bl Wh/Wh Am eggs again, from a breeder in Maine. Dumb ole me, shipping from Maine?? I cannot imagine them arriving very safely....But look at the color! I thought it would be fun to hatch some more. I already have a couple pullets ordered for my flock from Michelle, but I have the hatching bug so bad, I could not resist these :) The hens look nice, they are really light in color....maybe I will just keep one....famous last words... IF they even hatch.

So when are these coming? Good thing you have more than one incubator. I candled my am. eggs and all 11 of the wheaton and the 2 eggs from sparkles have started and it is staying a consistent temp. So this batch might just make it.
Oh and I put Hedwig in with the FBCM so I can get some olive eggers. :)

Hi! For the crele color, the lighter ones were the boys, the darker ones were the girls. :) I can find pictures of the babies if you'd like.

Lisa-I've missed you! We have to get together soon and catch up.

Jill-I'm so glad you guys love Purdy. :) She was a sweetie while she was here. My calico pullet (cochin) has laid 3 teeny, cute eggs for me now. :D I am so excited about the two Ameraucana pullets eggs...tiny little blue eggs! Can't wait!

I met up with Blujems and Slvrphoenix this morning. It's always fun to visit with them! They took Hedwig home with them today. I'm sad, but know she's going to a good home and will make them lots of pretty babies. :)
Oh no way!!! Really? I sold the two with those really wide combs, and kept this one that was narrow, but had bumps. It has little bumps like a pea comb so far. No waddles have come in, so I was hoping... I betcha i sold the two girls, and kept the boy

(looking at the pics, I see how that comb is sitting up off the beak pretty high though, had not noticed this looking at it in person).....

Always say your mind, that is why I posted it girl!! Now you are gonna have me looking at showgirl hatching eggs again.

Pawtraitart--when I hatched crele babies for SashaT, (they were bantam crele wyandottes not polish), she had said the breeder had told her the black/dark ones at hatch were boys and the lighter were girls (I think, I might have it backwards...)?? It has been awhile, but it seems like the dark one that hatched was a boy, we only had one make it. Sasha if you are on here and I am wrong let us know, I have old squeaky wheels in my head that are barely turning these days

Oh I hope they do make it! And good plan on the olive egger babies :) The wheaten eggs I ordered to come the week after next (25th) because I have those leghorn/ee mixes and b/b/s marans coming next week (19th) , then they can be staggered between the two bators for lockdowns. I need to candle mine that are in...I have not looked yet in the new ones I got from you Monday...and the wheatens from the week before I looked once but saw just one for sure doing its thing! I think a second one might be developing too...the shells are so thick on those. The other two just looked like yolks floating but it had not been very long.

Hey sasha!! Thanks for the info on the crele. I am so glad you remember! Michelle--hope you see this, I had it backwards :p

Sasha, I do miss you too! have thought about you throughout this cold winter, hope your little farm is doing well. Will definitely have to come visit :) We have been using that basket a lot, and I think of you every day! Have you set any eggs yet in your new incubator? I am shocked you have made it this long without filling it up :p

You're welcome. :) Yes, our little farm is doing well. We have baby goats due in about a month!
No, I haven't set any eggs yet, but I'm on the hunt!! I'm going to hatch some different breeds just for fun (and try not to keep any) and I'm waiting to hear from a couple different Ameraucana bantam breeders....but Jill has had bad luck with them, too. :( Mille Fleur/Calico cochins should be easy enough to get a hold of...I may even just drive up to ID and get some chicks from QCU.

Cindy said you have a big order of chicks coming in next month...what are you getting??

Sasha--Mottled Houdans, Naked Necks, WCB polish, snowball sold white polish, and 2 GSL and BR (i had to meet the minimum so got some to sell) Erik will get that WCB polish I swear haha! I could not get a girl last year for the life of me. These are all sexed, so crossing fingers it works this season. I got the shots too for good measure. They are supposed to come March 4, then I have hatches due 2/24 (just 4 eggs and they are for blujems), 3/5 FBCM and EE (12 eggs so far), then around 3/11 leghorn /ee and bbs marans, then these wheatens to hatch hopefully around 3/20. Working on a few other fun things to hatch for April. Most of what I am hatching is for other people wanting chicks, but you know I will end up with some :D I love Spring! Be sure to let us know what you end up setting....also I have a trip to Idaho coming to pickup pullets from QCU, not sure when they will be ready, but if it works to pick anything up for you I would be glad to.

More baby goats! That will be so fun! Blujems had 7 teeny ones the other night when I went to visit, sooooo cute, I love the way they jump around and play.

I missed your purple posts :)

Since it looks like we won't have a coop until around May, just wondering if it will be possible to get some pullets around then? (Am I wrong to assume that it would be a little late to get new chicks then?) I just don't think I want to take on raising chicks in my garage for 3 months...

By the way, enjoy reading everyone's posts--lot of chicken knowledge here!

IFA carries chicks until the end of June. I purchased mine the Friday before Mother's day, June 6th, and then I found a local lady who sold me some EE girls the first part of July. So, not too late to buy chicks in May/June. All of the lovely folks on here always seem to have some chicks/older chicks available at some point in time also.

IOW It's never too late to get chickens

much to my husband's dismay
