Donna, congrats on the babies! I sold my marans chicks on KSL for $6-7 straight run. In Logan...you could probably go way more down there in the populated area. When are your next eggs due/what kind again?

Cynthia, your boy looks so happy on his mission. I bet you are counting every day until he gets back. Your nest is empty now right? My girl starts college this fall, then one left to go, my 13 yr old son. I hate seeing them grow up and leave!

The next set was supposed to be Joel's Welsummers, but only one made it to lockdown. All but 2 were totally clear. The seller had emailed me about a week into incubation to let me know there were fertility issues being reported, so it wasn't totally unexpected, but kind of sad for Joel. I have more Welsummers in the incubator (about 20, I think?), but I'm not sure how well that's going to go. The second set of them in there was held up for about a week by the post office. Still, I candled them last night and about half of them look like they are developing. Can't recall when they are due offhand.

Hopefully, that one little Welsummer will hatch okay. The seller also sent me a couple of bonus eggs, so I have a Swedish Flower and something else (I've forgotten what!) in lockdown with the one Welsummer.

I candled the Isbar eggs I had sent last night as well-- out of 8, 6 are developing nicely. I'm hoping for at least 3 more girls for that group!

23?? I would pip the end, take a peek. It's getting late. :/ If it is alive, clear it's nostril area, put it back in and just help it a bit about every hr. Good luck.

Mimi, I'd candle it first, tapping lightly on the egg. If it's alive, odds are you'll feel it moving around or it'll start chirping. I hope it hatches.

Congrats on the babies hatching! Corvidae, sorry about the wellsummers. Poor Joel. I could definitely see you selling the FBCM for $10 apiece.

Another question from a newbie... We started making plans for our brooder (now hoping to get chicks in mid-March), but the area in our garage is pretty cold (60-70 degrees even under a heat lamp). I know it will be a little warmer in a month, but probably not the recommended 95 degrees for new chicks. How important is it for chicks to be that warm?

Pretty important they need the warmth to help food digest. Can you bring them in the house for a few weeks
