Nice blog. I commented with a link to the Spanish Fork ordinance for your list. I also read that Springville was opposed but is considering it again.

Welcome to Utah!
Where abouts are you in Utah? If you're picking up chicks from IFA, make sure you get there today (their delivery day), and check them over pretty good. In my opinion, they don't take care of their chicks very well.

And, if you could use some Delawares, I've got an order coming in on Friday. $3 each. We're in Sandy.

Marty,

I'm in Spanish Fork (the most opposite you can get from NJ in the whole country).

I took a long lunch and went up there on Wed with my wife and sis-in-law. Had to stop the girl form tossing the chicks in the box so quickly. Yes, I really want to look at each chick I buy. Really?

Alan.

I broke down and bought 6 Aracaunas from IFA on Wednesday (Salt Lake Story), but I was assured they had been delivered that morning. So far, they fit in fine with the Delaware hatchery stock I got yesterday.

Funny story, I had my ad on KSL selling Delawares for $3. A lady called up, said "I'll take 4". She rang the doorbell, just as I was downstairs doing pasty-butt duty. I grabbed 8 of them and put them in a box so she could pick her 4 pullets out. She put 4 in her box, and looked at the 4 I still had. "Did I pick the right ones?" she said. I said, "Naw, you probably want to take all 8 of them home, right?". She thought for a second and said, "Ya, know, I think you're right!".

I have no idea if it was my suave charm, or the cute fuzzy butts that doubled the sale... but I have my suspicions!

Greetings! I am in neighboring Idaho. Looking for 2 Jersey Giants (black, splash or blue) 2 Marans (Cuckoo, black copper or splash) and 2 Sussex (speckled). I do not want to order from a hatchery, so if you know of a breeder in Idaho, Utah, Montana or Wyoming I would appreciate contact information. I will drive to pick up chicks or young layers. Thanks!

Glad you got some Americanas, I love seeing their eggs along with white ones. Mine are great layers too. No blue or pink, yet but hoping for some this batch.

Especially from some of the banties ordered. tooo cute!

McMurrary did right even if not their fault. Nine died, 3 iffy so they sad they'd replace and fill with mfw's OR possibly banties. Couldn't decide credit or unwanted chicks so I called back later and explained to someone different that I had so many banties die and if they fill with males they'll be crushed, has happened before (we hv quail antwerps coming), etc. She was very nice and when I rcvd my confirmation order they ordered 2 of the 11 and filled the rest with duplicates from my order!

And for the P.O. complaint I first got a survey thinking oh boy, I'm gonna slam them, hadn't heard a word. Next email was a personal note from Sue in SL w/her ph#. I called and she apologized a TON, said she loves animals, said that is NOT how they want to treat live animals, etc. etc. She went 2 above the super's head up here, not protocal but she was concerned person involved would just delete complaint. I told her the majority of us that order chicks are extremely excited about their arrival and hv no problem getting an early am call to go get them. And I gave kudo's to the 21st main PO because in past they hv called so I didn't hv to wait. I told Sue the exterior of that box was COLD, not like room temp but like dock cold. 43 chicks in room temp wld hv been fine. The ones down were alive but so so cold.

As for the whole IFA thing... they tork me. Their 'great' KSL ads, "like um" on FB for a coupon...and then they treat chicks like shavings. They don't deep beaks, etc., you all know.

drgnflyz: Summit Feed here in PC is starting to place orders and they take good care of the chicks. It's a long drive but they have very little chick loss if any. 435-940-9294 I know it's quite the drive tho. Ask for Liisa, she places the order (and co-owner), tell them Julie sent ya.

I know this is a long post and a chicken board but loosing those chicks, one by one, was especially hard. Two days before I had my beautiful palomino filly take a horrific horse caused fatal head injury. Not a typical herd scuffle but an intent to kill, break open the head kick. She nearly ran over my daughter as well. I ended up loosing two horses that night and although chick time is usually great fun, it wasn't so much this time. Hopefully my replacement order (mon/tues) will be better.

I'll end my novel now for those still reading.
