Utah!

Cynthia those little OEs I got from you are showing no red whatsoever although one of them has less feathering and almost no tail yet. I'm thinking that AT LEAST 2 of them are girls! You did a great job choosing for me! Thank you

You know what? Mine did the same thing. That was one reason why I thought boy after a while..no tail! Well, the top picture shows her in the group. She has a bit of a tail now. I'm pretty sure it's a girl too..no pink in the comb like a couple of the others there, that are the same age.
Oh, you are very welcome!!

Do these guys look like they're growing alright, at least in general size? I can't tell, it feels like their growth is stunted but I haven't had chicks in so long I can't remember how quickly or slowly they grow.
(Don't mind the mess, we don't use the room for much more than a workshop and I was chasing the dog around it earlier.) Sorry I haven't been on much... with no budget for more chickens and nothing much to report... I've been busy doing other things. I'm just about to disappear from most social interactions in order to write a 70,000 word novel in 30 days.

Joy, for some reason this forum doesn't play well with Youtube lately. I can't see the video. Are you doing NaNoWriMo? I thought that was usually in November.

Cynthia, I love the pictures! Thanks for putting up so many of Amy so that I can see her

She is beautiful! (Well, they all are)

i just planted a bunch of garlic. it felt good to get out and dig in the garden a bit. not sure i planted them right but i think i did okay :) yeah catnip is used in tea, its a big export of canada for it. i think its the buds that are used

Cynthia that Faverolle has the Sweeeeetest little mug. Love her! The pics are great :)

Dilemma--I am having a HECK of a time with some of my McMurray chicks. I ordered females. All. My NN is chest bumping, BOTH GSL's are chest bumping, BOTH my BR are definite males. I kept 12 total chicks and I have today put all the ones together that act like boys (6) , are mean, or look like boysl. The girlie chicks are so calm and sweet and happy. The Potential Boy Brooder is total chaos. I am still guessing on some, but jeez it is looking pretty dismal. And there are two or three that are on my naughty list, even if they somehow turn out female, because they are mean mean little things. All my ornamentals look girlie still and are very sweet, crossing fingers. And I am hatching GSL's from birdguy, so I should get some of those, but I am really bummed about the NN, i have wanted one forever. It is mean, it pulled another one down today and chewed the side of its head off. Brats. So I have a few meanies to get rid of I suppose, it makes me sad it is turning out this way, I had the exact breeds I really wanted this year :/

QUESTION:
On the GSL's---how accurate is the coloring at birth? I keep thinking, well, these two are more orangish, one really dark one light, they should be girls, right? Boys are supposed to be born more white/yellow? Well they are both HUGE. And they fight all dang day. Hardly any tails, big long legs, combs looking too pink. Does the color sexing ever fail on these, does anyone know? What is funny, is the one feathering in dark dark red looks the most boyish of the two. The one that was really light and still getting lots of lighter feathers seems a little less obvious...lots are saying that one is a girl. it is so backwards. i will get some pics up. That big red one though...even if it is a girl I do not want to keep it, it is as mean as they get. These are the most aggressive chicks I have ever seen by far. And the Sparkles baby that I wanted sooooo bad, is being naughty too I am pretty sure that one is male.

Phoenix, holler if you want any more roosters for dinner. Two weeks, if this keeps up, they are out of here. You get first dibs, if you don't want them I am having my neighbor take them.

Oh, well here's a screenshot... I'm afraid it doesn't show much in the way of size like the video did. And yes, NaNoWriMo is usually in November but they've also got a "camp" version that usually takes place during two other months of the year. Same concept, slightly different style. I'm doing NaNoWriMo's april camp, and it has a flexible word goal. This is my second time trying a NaNoWriMo event.

(EDIT: More pictures)

Joy, your birdies look great! I love how the one looks like it's cuddling while you hold it.

Lisa, EEK! Your NN did what?! Ooooh that would make me pretty upset. Those NN's are supposed to be sweet, I thought. I think all of my boys were chest-bumpers, although I did have a girl or two that would pick fights, too. My mom's BSL was a stinker when she was itty bitty. She's quite friendly now, though.

Oh, gardening
smile.png
I need to get my seeds in the ground. Gotta look and see what I have, hehehehe *rubs hands together in glee* I've been hoarding seeds for years and need to cycle them out. I've got a treasure trove, I tell you!

OK, I have to be honest, I haven't read your posts. About to head home (FINALLY) and meet the new chicks that have hatched today!!!! Sundance, four of the eggs your sent me home with are hatching (the others were all clear but one that was an early quitter). So, looks like four of four that went into lockdown are hatching. So Excited to FINALLY have some chicks hatch.

Lilwanis, Congrats on the babies!

Corvidae, I'm so glad that Joel finally got his welsummers! You are SWIMMING in chicks!

Lisa, that is really rotten luck with the chicks!

Cynthia, love your chicken pictures. I'm sorry I was right on that EE. I wanted to be wrong.

Joybells, maybe you could just post the link to your video. They sure are cute in the screenshots though.

Mcmurray puts extra chicks in that are roosters to keep the brooder warm Sorry I have a pretty little naked neck you can have if you want her. She is partridge
