Utah!

Are any of you Logan area folks going to be showing your chickens in the fair this year? I would like to, but I haven't ever shown anything but goats. How do the shows work? and how do I register?

Have fun Lisa! Be responsible!

I went in to talk to the kids in the class who are watching my latest batch of chicks hatch. They were so cute. After they went to lunch, I candled. I was a little worried because the "low temp" warning was flashing. That means that at some point over the past 5 days, temps dropped below 95. But, when I candled, I saw 7/7 healthy babies wriggling around at 5 days in. Yay!

Congratulations!!! That's a pretty good hatch rate!!! Awesome!

AKA QCU Poultry.

Lisa, I have some pullets out of my golden cuckoo marans project pen that I can let go. I'm only keeping the ones that hatched out brown. There might be a couple extra olive egger pullets in addition to the ones you want as well but I have to be careful to not sell out of those because I'll need some to complete pullet orders later in the season when I have the other requested breeds available. Hopefully there are more girls among the younger babies I have yet to decide male/female.

Sasha, I'm sorry you had such a lousy hatch. That really bites.

Red, when I finish with my school hatches, I want to try hatching some of your icelandics. I suspect your problems are incubator related. Since I have a great track history with mine, it'd be a great experiment. I'd give any hatched chicks back to you because I need more chicks like I need a hole in the head.

This time around, I am hatching 5 pure legbars, a legbar/OE mix, and a FBCM.

Sundance, I am feeling pretty certain that two of the chicks that I hatched from you are boys. The one chick is super frizzled and feathering in really quickly. The other two don't seem to be frizzled and are feathering pretty slowly. I guess there is a chance of curly feathers as they get some, but right now, what they do have, seems pretty flat. I know you said you wanted a boy from those eggs, so it seems pretty likely if you still do.

I seem to be getting a lot of boys this year. My dad is excited about it. He keeps asking which ones we will be able to process. Henry tasted that good, and he was a year-old rooster. I am feeling fairly certain that the SBEL's are both boys too, although there is a chance of a girl with them. It is hard to tell. One has a three row peacomb and the other seems to have a large single comb. I will have to wait and see with them. They are super curious and flighty.
