Utah!

Brad, you don't know how lucky you are to have a chicken that will do that... and for it to be a White Leghorn!!! And people say that miracles have ceased. Maybe the hen does that, because she feels safe up there. You're probably taller that any other perch in the hen house.

Hey Gypsy,

Yeah I guess I'm famous in our neck of the woods for awesome chickens and awesome coops. I'll have 18 different breeds available in a few months. Aside from the production breeds, I'll be specializing in breeds with unique feather and egg color. Thanks for checking out my website... Please check back often, because I'm adding stuff all the time. While I don't have chicks at this time, I have just release my new coop design and I'm filling orders now... Even if you already have a coop, be sure to refer them to your chicken-desirous friends. Gotta get that word of mouth going.

i love how she does it. at first the leghorns were not friendly but now they just pile on my lap to cuddle. but the one girl is funny, its like she needs to cuddle all the time. i am a tall guy being 6 foot 6 so she likes it up on me. i walk around the yard and she just sits down and makes soft little clucks to me. i swear she thinks she is a parrot lol. oh and now the others are starting to do it too. all my girls are very sweet and loving. i give lots of credit to you cody for the way you raised them to the age of 16 weeks. i hope you never give up on selling chickens because if i ever need more, i am coming to you first!

I have some from the same batch that have begun to lay too... I wonder what determines how blue or green there eggs are. I'm sure it's just genetics, but it's fascinating to think that something inside the actual chicken paints the shell blue or green. Very, very cool.

My Ameracauna hen is maybe 2 or 3 now...she still lays almost daily and her eggs are the largest of all (I have 2 RIR, 1 Leghorn, 1 Polish and 1 Australorp).

My son named her Sam...as in green eggs and ham, sam-I-am!

i was thinking that you guys are so close to the dell that there would be more predators there than where i am, near brighton high ~7200s/2000e. i lined the coop with a little bit of concrete to discourage digging from whatever can get in the run. after hearing all the hawk stories i may need to reevaluate keeping it open, though i really only have a small portion that isn't covered by the cherry tree. that tree attracts lots of tweet birds, so i hope the chickens under it don't end up with some sort of disease from them.

my one special ee is named sweet cheeks because she has always been so sweet. the other girl (she layed the green egg yesterday) is named chipmunk. and the two of them have the chipmunk cheeks so it works well. i have not named them all and i mainly call them girls or sweetheart or something like that. i sure love them. every night i go and tuck them in and kiss their combs and thank them and tell them how much i love them. its interesting how some of the black stars have not had their combs grow much. there is a few who just have a small light pink comb. i hope all is okay with them. they seem fine and are laying like crazy. there is a part of me that wants to get 2 more girls and maybe a pair of ducks. not sure tho, i will have to think about it. nhammer its cool your girl is still laying like that. its always nice when they keep laying when other hens slow down.

If it would stop raining i could get my coop built, but seriously hope to get the coop enclosed this weekend, Bought a window today and I have the roof on. My wife feels its over the top, But I want it to look good as it will be visible from the road

I'd also keep an eye out for the chickens and cherries, especially the pits. I'd hate to see you lose one that way. If ours choked and died on pellets, I'd be leery of cherries.

BTW - So.... we just got back from Pleasant Grove. She didn't have any bantams.... but she did have a special needs chick that I couldn't leave behind. She's the happiest, sweetest little thing. She's got a horrible overbite. Seems to eat and drink just fine. Guess I'm going to be figuring out how to trim a chicken's beak fairly soon.

Somebody says I'm banned from KSL. I guess I don't listen that well because that is what he said the last time when I rescued the two who lost their feet/toes to frostbite. And he also said that the time before when I rescued a horse who had been chased through a barbed wire fence. Maybe I'll just have you browse KSL for me...
