Casa, the houdans are sooooo pretty! As is your frizzle girl. I am going to have to see if I can get an updated pic of the one I hatched. I bet she is really pretty now too. She doesn't have the beard and muffs like that girl of yours. With that pea comb and the beard and muff, I'll bet she'll lay a pretty blue egg for you.

So, today is day 19 for my broody's eggs. Well, my wonderful daughter and my adorable neighbor girl decided to go gather the eggs today. They let out my chickens (while the dogs were out) and gathered up my broody's eggs. Not sure how long they were carrying them around or how bumpy of a ride they had. I'm hoping I'll have a survivor or two. What do you think?

Cynthia--I think Maynard was born mid July last year, if that helps...Sasha brought him back and he was 4-6 weeks old maybe? Or did I pick him up mid July? Eeek I cannot remember for sure.

Lil thanks for the love on the Houdans, they can be yours too, we will share and they will just live here I hope they thrive and do well Hope you are right about Miss Frizz! She is a little squealer, so shy she just squeals when you come by her, it is pretty cute. Squeaky like a little mouse lol We love her.

Forgot to answer you on the Barred Holland question.  Barred Hollands look like BR but they aren't as big.  They have bright yellow legs and lay a huge white egg, almost daily.  There is a BH thread on BYC.  They have been endangered for a long time.  Several people have made them a project of recovery.  I thought I was getting BR.  That's what the sign said.  When they started laying white eggs and weren't very big,  I knew they weren't BR.  Took quite a bit to find out what they were.... posted on BYC.

There are a lot of problems with the project, however mine seem to be more close to the standard that they are trying to re-introduce, which is great.    Mine just need a little more size, to be perfect.

Okay, so tomorrow I'll get pics but so far I've had over 40 eggs hatch with another 5 pipping tonight.

Had 69 in lockdown, 4 pipped and half way out passed

, but have 39 healthy babies, a couple still wandering around the inc hatch tray and unfortunately have one Black Australorp with a bum leg that seems to be getting better. By morning I should have the pipped 5 and maybe more surprises.

So far that's 51 out of 69, and counting....

Plus, they are self sexing... the males are lighter than the females. This pic is when they were still quite young.... the roo Bart is big now and very impressive!!

Oh man that Roo is super cool looking! And auto-sexing??? That is awesome. He looks light blue, very cool! Congrats on all the babies, hope you get some sleep tonight That is a great hatch to get so many already, yay!

Thanks gals, I hope we get one or two. I'm getting four from Kyle this evening. (Yes, even after coming home with three the other day). If there are no survivors I'll give two to each gal. (I have one broody I didn't want to sit on eggs). Desert Congrats on the hatch. Great odds so far! What all did you have in there? I love guineas they are just fun to watch. Cynthia12, that Delaware is just so pretty. I don't have many white chickens, she really stands out in a crowd. I'm afraid she is a little unhappy about her living arrangements at the moment. I have her in a pen in our coop/run so she can be seen by the others but not picked on. Please bear with me on these next questions as I'm still green to this. I have a little tiny BO, she is about 2 months old but is the size of the 1 month olds. Could she be a bantam? She is just adorable and tiny. Also, do BO roos take a long time to grow a tail he is 2 months old also and.looks rumpless?

I hoping you'll get a couple to hatch.... you never know.

Yes, guineas are hilarious!!! Mine spend all their time running full blast around the acreage and surrounding hills. They wander a long ways off and you can hear them the whole time...lol. They run EVERYWHERE!!

So far hatched out are 20 BA for replacement breeding stock, 7 guineas (of which 5 super small ones had not survived

the hatch, just died right after they were half out. The eggs were small and I decided at the last minute to throw them in the inc. Plus they can be very temperamental and I'm sure it was all the entries into the inc to pull babies to sort as they hatched. Had BA, BH and Black Orps hatching and they are pretty much all black). Also hatched out so far 8 Wels, 9 Barred Hollands and 9 Orps, which some are SQ English Orps from two sources, and the rest Hinkjc lines. When last I checked 3 more eggs were pipping. One of course is a white guinea which is mostly pipped out, and already looks to be weak

. Have more guinea eggs in the inc set to hatch on the 16th. No more guinea eggs after that since the stinkers have been hiding them during the last week!! They must know I already have buyers for them!!!

As for your questions... my BO roo matured his tail late but I think there was more there than rumpless, if I remember correctly. You may just have a small pullet.... mine range in size from quite large to medium. Sometimes they take some time to mature to full size too. Where did you get them?

Sara, I've seen eggs/chicks survive harder things than being collected. I'll bet they're ok. I think Spider-Man is a fantastic name. I have chickens named Santa Claus and Godzilla. Used to have a Hulksmash.

Desert, so sad about losing some while hatching, but it sounds like overall, it's going really well.

Lisa your dog crate coop is awesome and those silkies are so cute.
