Utah!

The rain today was crazy! But I must say i do.love it. So I'm finding that my run is getting.smelly with all this rain. That DE will it help with this? Also whats the down sides to it and where can I get it? IFA?

So, I successfully placed my newest babies under my good broody. She handled it well, made some cute little clicks when took the McDonalds cup off her head. She is a fierce momma, drew blood the last time I placed chicks with her. So one day while gathering extra eggs she stole out from under her I grabbed a cup and stuck it over her head prepared to fight with her to keep it on. Much to my surprise she didn't protest the cup. I moved her gathered the extras and put her vack without a hitch. it was a great discovery. But I digress. I was initally planning on putting them under the 1st time broody but was too worried she wouldnt really know what to do with them so I took the (possibly already damaged, due tomorrow) eggs that the pro was sitting on and oh so carefully sit them under the newbie mom. Hopefully both broodies will be contented this way :).
i would treat it like you would if you had smelly compost. so add some brown material such as straw or shavings or that kind of stuff. chickens love kicking around some straw. once it dries out it will be better. i am a big fan of de. yeah some will say there is respiratory issues but its never been a issue for me or my girls. honestly feather dander can be just as dangerous as a respiratory issue in my experience with birds. you can get it at ifa. look for permaguard or however you spell it. i found it by the canning stuff by the bulk food grade grains and such. you can also add wood ash if you have it. but yeah i would add straw to the run and till the soil up a bit. it adds air, drys it out and the straw helps it not smell.

Quick question for anyone that has any info. We have a decent amount of extra eggs and give them to family/neighbors but go through egg cartons pretty fast. I have looked online and see the one dozen cartons going for around .40-.80 each. Does anyone have an idea one where we can buy cartons for less?
If you watch KSL sometimes people have them on there for free or cheap. It seems like during the early spring and winter IFA sells them for about .20. Now they want .49. I got lucky last year and found some on KSL. A lady said she had some extra. When i got there she actually had around a hundred or so. Im slowly running out due to people not returning them also.

So, my pro broody hen has been out and about with her adopted chicks today. She is such a good momma. I took up over ripe peaches and plums. Momma hen grabbed half of one and started pulling it apart. She would then cluck for a baby to come over and she would give it to them. It was just cute. She is as happy as can be purring and clucking over those little ones.

I'm glad they went with you. Sounds like they are being taken care of :) I'm excited to see how they turn out

I am looking for purebred fertile eggs if anyone has any for my newest broody, I can travel to get them. Let me know what breeds you have.

Thanks,

Kyle

I have a bunch they are at reds. I'll sell them for 15 each

I have some in Logan as well if you are ever up this way. I have a few family members that give me all of theirs, and some neighbors--they drop them off in the hopes of some free eggs lol I sell most of mine but give a dozen away if someone brings me a good batch of cartons in exchange.

McMurray had a big sale on clear egg cartons with cute labels awhile back and I bought a huge box of those too I think they were .19 each but I had to buy alot. They went fast, every body liked those and I did not get nearly as many back.

Hi Deseret springs,
I am in Fruitland, I am too interested in purebreed chicken eggs. I am getting an incubator and I will have RIR in a couple of months and I want to hatch my own chicks. So far I have had little luck with eBay eggs.

Hi to,Kyle too.
Ps I am a lurker!

I have anywhere from less than 10% hatch up to 50%. Usually the ones I really want have the poor hatch...
