!!!!!!!!

I looked at my chocolate chick tonight. It has white mottling coming in! I can now put my hand into the carrier and the little stinker will come over and let me pick it up. It's so dainty when it perches on my fingers. I love it.

On the OE's, my OE is actually a BO/EE cross. So, her mom laid light green eggs, and the dad light brown. She makes those beautiful speckled olive eggs I've been getting. I will be happy when she's done with her broodiness and is laying again.

Oh, congrats everyone who's had birds in the fair! Way to go! Loving the pictures of the beautiful entries

Still haven't taken pics yet.... my hatchlings are driving me crazy!!! Have chicks and keets hatching that shouldn't be for a couple more days... guess they started incubating while waiting for the incubator (only explanation I can think of). Had a Welsummer hatch 5 days early and keets 3 days early...ugh!!! Got into the inc to place the keets into lockdown; they had already hatched and were running around!!! Seems the keets are hatching better while sitting in a holder in the inc rather than laying on their side (had 11 out of 14 hatch while they were on end). Have Orp chicks pipping and hatching right now.... they aren't scheduled to hatch until the 10th.

Hoping to get pics tomorrow of the babies. Still have the second brooder to finish.... so very tired!!!

Hey there Utah folks! Wow, you've all been so busy! It took me quite awhile to get caught up on everyone's posts. It's been pretty quiet over here in Idaho....out here all by myself when all the fun is in Utah with all the chicken shows and drama. LOL

Anyway, I thought I'd toss this out there.....does anybody have a really good typey extra fluffy splash orpington roo or cockeral that needs a home? My efforts at shipped eggs this year has been a disaster. I'm not spending anymore money on shipped eggs this season. I would trade one of my blue orpington pullets for a roo that fits what I'm looking for. I've already traded for what was supposed to be a splash cockeral....but.....I think it's a pullet. "She" is a bit too narrow in the tail so appears at first glance to have sickle feathers but I don't see ANY saddle feathers and her comb is already red so I think it's a girl. I hope she widens out at least. Gah!!!

OMG that babies are here, and they are so Loud!!!! Poor things, they are all over the place in there, I'm like just sit under your light and shut up! hehehe. All of them had their becks dipped in the water twice, and most practically went swimming right after I put them down, so I know they all had plenty of water, Most have eaten, and I was worried about those crumbles, but they seem to be doing just fine with them. Now what are they???? Most of them have feathered feet. I figured I would let them warm up and stop crying before I try looking at them upclose. I do have to say 32 chicks are a lot of chicks. Holy crap, I think I'm running down to get a long feeder this morning.

I know, I think they are more of a mix of Cochin, Brahma's and EE's There are a few cleaned legged WHATS. Said I was hoping for a few Silkies, but I don't think there is one in there. Well I think I might actually keep what Brian doesn't take when he comes over for a few weeks, I might want rather keep a bantam Brahma then my big girl. I just love the tinies.

DId you rehome your silkie Roo? I still can't find a home for the one I am sure is a boy. Dang! He is from such expensive eggs. And so pretty, I hope I can find a good home for him. I should have put him in the fair just so I could put a For Sale Tag on him to find more people that might be interested. He is a little young but I bet they would have taken him, I saw younger ones there.

Cynthia did your third SG/Silkie baby make it? What color?

Yes, I found homes for both of them. The last one the lady who came to buy him, kept telling me that he was really a Pullet, and I kept telling her that HE was starting to CROW, and she kept telling me that was impossible. So I told her, I know he is a Rooster, so please know that I'm not taking him back once he starts really crowing at your house. I haven't heard from her, but she did pay the $15.00 that I was asking for him. I guess she will find out the hard way, but I tried telling her that he is starting to crow, cause I wanted her to know that I was 100% that he was a boy. She didn't want to believe me. Oh well.

That is awesome! $15 too? I am trying to just go for $5, but would give him for free if I could find a good chicken home for him. Limited population up here, don't know how long it will take. No crowing yet, but some of the younger batch will be boys too so I want to get him gone before I have a handful more to find homes for. Need to renew my KSL ad, it is getting old. He was born 5/8 so hopefully no crowing for a bit longer hehe I am pushing my luck with my neighbors.

DId you get any Marans in your chicks like you were hoping? or Japanese?

No I was hoping for a Serema and another Japanese. I don't think I got either. But I don't really know what they look like little, my Japanese I got was already 3 weeks old when I got her and she was jet black, and is still jet black. I do have 2 clean legged whats in there, that I'm for sure going to keep to see what they are. One is black with brown eyebrows almost like a german shepherd, and the other is cream with white head, funky looking. hahaha. But I got my Light Brahma that I've wanted all year, but now I think there are a few light brahma bantams too, maybe a buff would be fun too.

When Brian comes over we will really look at all of them. There are some that already have pretty good feathers coming in, so I think I might do Cynthia's trick of painting them, but I don't know if you can feather sex bantams.

My Roo's were born I think May 1st, and they started to try crowing at 11-12 weeks. So good luck.
