Acemario, I'm sorry about the loss of your rooster. The black comb makes me think it was a heart issue. Note that I've only just started playing a vet on the internet, and haven't had time to buy my degree yet.

Interesting that you would say this. I've noticed that both of my boys have some purple seeping in on their combs. They haven't been getting nearly as much exercise lately, which made me think it was a circulation issue. If I see it darkening, I'm going to flip out now.

Ace, I am sorry you lost your rooster, as well

Really?!? Is the bright green diarhhea related? Would something he ate do this? or is it some kind of disease that could affect the rest of my flock?

This might just be me, but bright green diarrhea sounds like he got into something he shouldn't have and poisoned himself

Do you keep any snail bait around? Fertilizers? Pest poisons? Stuff like that.

My little mix that has been acting funny is doing much better today. I was so excited this morning when she wanted out of the coop, and she walked down the side yard with the others. She's not out of the woods yet, but she isn't crawling on the ground, she's more up and about. She is standing much better today, and she isn't holding her tail straight down. I don't think she has been in the nest box all day long, and she seem much happier today. If I go out to check on her, she gets up and walks off, not wanting me to pick her up. The last few days she just looks at me like, really you have to pick me up. I'm just so happy that she is out free ranging today, and she seems more herself. I don't know what could have been wrong unless she fell off the highest roost in the coop, its a little over 5 feet and hurt herself. I don't really know. I thought maybe it was a stuck egg, she has been in the nest box for almost a full week straight, but no egg, so who knows. I'm just glad she is doing much better today.

Not that I know of... but I am thinking the same thing... but I also agree that it seems to be a heart problem too cause the blood wasn't flowing through his comb and waddles... maybe the two are related?

We live in a basement apartment, and our tenants also enjoy letting the chickens roam their two acre yard. From what I know of, they have been careful with fertilizers, etc... but maybe he went to a neighbors... idk... :(

But the good news is that I saved two fresh eggs, and pulled two from the fridge... AND THEY'RE IN THE INCUBATOR!!!!! LONG LIVE RUFIO!!!!

' I have some pallets i was saving at work but no longer need. If anyone is interested send me a PM. I have 3 that are 4' x 4' and 1 that is 4' x 8' they have 3/4" plywood on the top. That is 2-1/2" sheets of 3/4" plywood for free with a little work to remove the nails. My work is approx. 4700 s and 5600 w. You would have to take them as is and do the work at home. Monday will be the only day to get them cause i am going deer hunting on tuesday and wont be back to work until monday on 9/30. This is good plywood that has not been weathered.

When a bird isn't eating enough, their poop is bright green because bile (which is bright green) isn't getting diluted as much as when there is a larger volume of poop going through.

Chickens with Lymphoid Leukosis (which is like cancer) will also have bright green poop. I'm not sure of the particular reasons behind that, but they are connected to liver problems, I think.

Awesome! Thanks for the information! Good to know! Thanks for the advice everyone. I still have my flock on antibiotics just in case...and i'm not letting them out until I can assure that there isn't any poison/bad things laying around that may have been eaten.

Thank you thank you thank you all!

I have some little sexlinks and SLW's. Also a real pretty lavender LF cochin hatched. And, 1 GLW. Babies! Anyone interested in sexlinks or SLW's? I think I'll keep the cochin to watch, and the Golden Laced. I have another batch of SLW's in that are doing well. Both of these are heritage. Beautiful birds.
