Utah!

Welcome, Melisa! And welcome to the wonderful world of chickens! I have a RIR and just love how chatty she is. I named her Lark, and one time we were trying to envision having a flock of RIR's. My brother said, "Oh goodness, a yard full of Larks." I don't know why, but it always makes me smile.

Thank you, you cutie petutie...(ha ha...spelling?)

happy birthday cynthia!

so i got a catalog in the mail from meyer hatchery... this could be dangerous....

"Do It! Do It!" she chants in a small voice....

I just realized when you posted this that I pre-ordered this year's March 1 order of chicks last year in November.......all those Houdans and turkens...seems so long ago, but yet it does not seem like that time of year yet! I don't think I should even peek in those catalogs for awhile haha :) I keep getting the monthly email from McMurray, and I delete it before opening it.

However, I really really like my Austrawhite from Cackle, so I have been wanting to order a couple of those and a Cherry Egger and a Comet for Spring. Has anyone on here gotten chicks from Cackle? Birdguy has used them for chickenstock and so far the chicks I have gotten have been really good layers from them. The Austrawhite is white with black polka dots, a leghorn/australorp, and she lays the fattest eggs, started really early, and is super sweet and people friendly. I got a FBCM from there too, it lays really well, way better than my other FBCM but not quite as dark in color. Better temperament though. So far so good, wondering if anyone else has had good/bad luck with them? And what the shipping is like?

They have some of their own hybrids, here is the link where you can browse...I really do love my austrawhite, she is an amazing layer.

ETA:***The Austrawhite is under the "white layer" category dwn the page, but mine lays a really pretty beige colored egg. If anybody wants to combine to order, I will have an order come the end of February-ish and would be glad to add yours on.

Welcome Melisa! I live in Clinton, so I'm fairly close to you.

I'm going to set some FBCM eggs tomorrow or Friday. If I get an egg from them tomorrow, I'll set them tomorrow. If not, I'll wait to see if I get one Friday. I'm excited!
