Utah!

Red, I'm so sorry that court went so poorly. I guess an appeal is out of the question? If and when you do get married, I will definitely be there.

I'm loving hearing these "when we got married" stories. My husband and I met when I was 15, and got married when I was 19. We were both starving college students, and didn't have two pennies to rub together. While I didn't love how poor we were, and how little we saw each other in the beginning, we were deliriously happy. Still are. :)

Cynthia, I am so sorry you lost two of your seramas to the cold. That makes me so sad for you. I want one of your puppies so very much, but I have promised myself that we can't get a dog til we move to a bigger house. I'd want your golden girl or your cream girl. Want. so. very. very. much.

Brian, I'm sorry you lost a serama too. So heartbreaking.

Madchicken, your chicks are so cute!

I haven't lost any chickens to the cold. My little frizzle lost a couple toes last winter. I've noticed the one frizzle sleeps in the nest box, which is annoying, but I suspect it keeps her warmer. The other nuzzles up against two bigger chickens, which I bet is even better.

I like the idea of tarping my run a little. It'd be really tricky though.

Deaths keep rising. So far I've lost 6 chickens to this cold snap we have had. The girls I have that are hardy and good winter birds but the ones I've lost are silkies and seramas. Of course my favorites:( when I started chickens this past summer I would have never guessed winter would be so difficult. I knew it would be tough but I wasn't expecting this... I may have to get rid of all my chickens until I can find a job to be able to afford them. Finding a job has been a joke! Sounds like everyone is doing pretty good so far with their coops and chickens:) keel it up guys. I got a great photo of my skittles flying from the coop to my garage haha. She does not like stepping in the snow, well when she is first getting out of the coop anyways. After she is out she will walk in the snow. She is so funny.

Oh I am so sorry to hear you lost another one! I was pretty worried this morning...my therm said -8, I know in Idaho it was in the negative teens last night....crazy! Mine were ok this morning, but those juveniles were shivering something fierce. My silkies still have not come out of their doghouse run, they do have a 120W heat lamp in there but with that big doorway I don't know how much good it is doing. :/

wow that's just too cold! I'm glad yours are doing ok. I definitely need to get a bigger heated lamp. I just can't get anything else until a job comes my way. I've been thinking about making one of my spare bedrooms a nice warm cozy room for all my chickens this winter but its probably not such a great idea lol.

Brian, sorry about your continued losses. That's hard

I admit I'm not above bringing a chicken that's freezing into the house and giving them a spa treatment under the hair dryer. In fact my BO looooves the attention. This is a video of her last winter (it's loud):

Madchicken, those eggs are beautiful! And they look delicious

I'm getting one egg every three days or so, right now. And it's usually frozen by the time I find it. My girls are having a fit about this cold weather!

I should tarp at least part of my run. I've got some large squares of plywood in my yard that were intended for another coop. When winter comes, they end up leaned against either side of the run to keep the snow and wind out for my girls.

Sphinx, the BF is going to appeal, if he can at all. What happened was totally and completely unfair. And, we're researching prenups, since we would like to get married but not have the wicked witch of the west come after everything I have, too. I've seen it happen, as illegal as it should be.

I pulled open the roof of my coop today to grab an egg out of there, and while I was halfway-inside (I do not have long arms or legs) one of the chickens came in and looked at me like, "What are you doing in here??"

Awesome video, Red!! Your orpington REALLY likes her spa treatment!!! I laughed when I saw her stretch her wing out like she was sun bathing. LOL
