Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We had a great Christmas, and of course the kids got way too much stuff. Everything here is just fine. The girls all seem to be doing great outside in this weather. The have been out sun bathing the last few days in the warm sun. So I'm sure they are happy.
Now as far as eggs, I'm only getting maybe 1-2 a day down from the 5 day, with 18 of them outside. Which isn't bugging me any. We couldn't keep up with eating them. I'm going to be in for it in the summer with 18 of them, that's for sure.
But my question today is… The last week we have noticed a white dot in the yolk. We sometimes get an egg with a blood spot. But we are now getting them with a white spot, some are white spots are bigger then others, is this from it being cold outside and them freezing or something? I go out every morning, put out a fruit or veggie for the day, and some scratch, and of course give them fresh unfrozen water. And usually I go back out around 4 to get the few eggs, and they are usually extremely cold.
My husband was joking around yesterday with them that I have a mystery rooster out there, and they are fertilized…He did this to tease my 5 year old into thinking she was eating baby chicks. I don't think we have a Roo out there, but now he got me thinking about it, what is the white spots.
And if there is a Roo out there, I'm sure its my Hokey Pokey that I got from Lisa. I really need to get a photo of that SG/NN mix. She/He has the softest feathers, almost silkie like, but then not really. And is a very dirty white look, and of course has the polka dots. But the top feathers on the head are so crazy. That I've been questioning if its a Roo. If it is, I've never heard a peep. So hopefully that won't change, because I love my funky looking chicken outside.
