Utah!

Oh my gosh, Doughie. I LOVE your home security system

I looked around in the snow this morning, and I didn't see any new people tracks. So, false alarm. We figure it must have been a crazy strong gust of wind that hit the back door and made that noise. Still, I feel better knowing I have my boom boom sticks on hand.

Sundance........oh man. You're silly

I hope everyone has a good and safe Christmas Eve and Christmas!

I was one of the lucky ones to get to evaluate this waterer while Pawtraitart was working on it. She sent me this first, and today I got the bracket for it. As you can see, the little chicks take to it. This thing, does NOT drip all over the shavings. Plus, no shavings kicked into the water, like the larger waterers.
I LOVE THOSE! Definitely have to get me one. Or two. or three.....? They would be perfect for quail. Madchicken, your quail still laying good? I was getting an egg per quail, per day, they were doing great, then one day none, then since that about 2 a day....they must not be liking the snow? Stinkers. I had someone want fertile eggs, and they must have heard the phone call, it was the same day they gave me zero! Red, so glad you were not getting terrorized. That scared me, I worried about it! Doughie, adorable pooches! Merry Christmas Eve to all my chicken friends! And Merry Christmas and New Year too! I hope you create many happy memories over the next few days. :love

Sick today. I knew it would finally hit me. Have been in bed most of the day. Up for a bit, posted this Silkie for the gal I got the eggs from, so will post her/him here. This Silkie has a great muff! This is from the same gal I got Cotton from. She has beautiful Silkies. For some reason, both times I got eggs from her, only one hatched. Now hoping I'm as lucky as the first time, and it's a girl.

Don't know how the comb works on the boys. This little one does have a knot starting at the back of the beak though.??

still here in utah, I'm beginning to think the trip fairy does not want me to go. The new system came in was installed and did not work. Bummer. new system coming next week some time. Just my luck. Sat out with the chicken for a bit today. They wanted to come by me but hated the snow. They were walking like the snow was hot coals. Pretty funny. They were happy to get intp the dirt under my gazebo and dust bath they ate the scratch got their mealworms then back to the coop for some footwarming.

Oh Gary, that poor thing. What do you do for a chicken in a full molt like that? I've never had one go that bad...knocking on wood!

She sleeps in the nest boxes so i make sure they have lots of straw in them. I also keep food in the coop and a 100 watt light about 16" off of the floor that's on all the time. I tied the cord in a knot around the roost bar so it wouldn't fall on the floor in the straw. When its really cold you can usually find all my bantams even my bantam rooster in the coop. She seems to do pretty good in the cold with the light and the heat lamp on in the coop. She is my first that has had a full molt in the middle of the winter. If it gets to cold i will bring her in since she is one of our special needs pullets. She is the little one that had wry neck as a chick and pulled through it. She is the smallest chicken i have. We have decided to never part with her because of her handicaps. Yes she still shakes her head back and fourth sometimes losing balance and falls over but she will be 2 years old this spring and lays 3-4 eggs a week so that makes her even more special. Oh ya, she has never gone broody, weird for a Silkie, maybe due to some brain damage. Her name is Twister

aww, I love her story Gary, you are taking good care of her. She must be feeling ok to be laying. More protein for her is also a good thing while she's in such a heavy molt.

Hope every one is enjoying their day. Had to come on to check in with my NYD hatch a long. Stopped in to say..have a great day.

Had a pleasant Merry Christmas surprise from one of my pullets today. Another new egg. From a sex link that I didn't expect to be laying for about another two weeks. A nice little light brown egg..a nice size for a first, that's a sex link for you.

Tell, your black girl could start laying soon.
