Ace, congrats on the new egg! Woohoo!
Madchicken, I'll take a picture when these hens start laying again. I think they're still adjusting to the change of environ at my house.
Cynthia, that picture is darling!
My girls are still on strike, but they're starting to get braver about venturing out into the snow when I'm outside. I have three or four hens and pullets now that will come charging through the snow to greet me and follow me around. Most of them are cold weather breeds like BR's and EE's, but my spunky little Leghorn is included among their group. Leghorns aren't exactly a cold weather breed. I don't think anyone told Chelsea that, though![]()
Red, i am so sorry. My frizzle i got from Sundance as a chick has gone broody. Start keeping the eggs for me and we will replace the lost hen for her. she can have first choice.Well, one of the Seramas did end up laying yesterday, but I had a very sad thing happen this morning. When I went out to feed everyone, I checked in on the bantams and found one of the hens breathing very hard, like she was straining. I was really worried, so I went and fed everyone and came back a few minutes later, but the little hen had already passed. I found an egg in her abdomen, so she was eggbound. She went so quickly and I didn't have the chance to help herSundance has been very understanding about this, but it still makes me sad.![]()
